Hey, Roger-

Short races, no handicap. This should be fun. The favorite doesn't have to win.

Good luck to everybody.

I hear the Diamond tables will keep you honest.

Take care

I couldn't make it last night but I'm dying to know how it went. How about a debriefing.

I got there at 7:45 and the field was full, I wasn't able to play, I arrive too late. I think Roger turned away about 15 people. I think everything went well, Roger had the microphone out and we will soon have the brackets up on the big screen. I left at eleven, curious to hear who won?

Yeah I'd like to know the player list and the payouts. I'd also very much like to know what time it ended with 32 players AND how many tables were used.

In any event that is great news that the very first event filled up!

Hello Everyone,

First of all, thank you everyone for coming out and supporting the tournament last night. We had a great tournament with an exciting final. We had a Full Roster of 32 players filled by 7:45 last night. The Tournament was finished by 12:30. Here are the Results of the 1st Friday Night OC Sports Grill 8 Ball Tournament:

1st place = Tuan "Tuanito" (from Hot Shots) $125. plus a free Sketch donated by DIGI SKETCH
2nd place = Dave C. "Underdog" $58.
3rd place = Mike Berrry $35.
4th place = Frank "The Barber" Almanza $20.
5th/ 6th place = Ramin B., Johnny Kang $15
7th/ 8th place = Matt, Nolan $10.

We had $32. plus an added $20. for the 8 Ball Breakpot to equal $52. Five players were picked at random but nobody was able to snap the 8 on the break. This will roll over to next week.

Tournament Updates: Tournament Practice will start at 7:30 instead of 7pm, although, I will still be taking sign-ups at 7pm.

A big thank you must go out to The OC Sports Grill for supplying a great venue and Donnie Wessels (SD Billiards) for supplying TOP NOTCH Diamond tables...and also a big thank you to Jennifer Lynn for assisting me in the tournament.

For next week...Get there early, this tournament fills up fast!

We'll see you there,

Congratulations Roger, that's terrific that the event was so successful first time out. Getting through 32 players in 4.5 hours is not bad. How many tables did you use and do you anticipate keeping more tables in play for the next time or do you think this will usually go until 12:30 to 1:00?

One thing I do when it comes to running a tournament is keep it going. As soon as a table opens up...I throw a match on it. I don't run the tournament by rounds and try to catch up as needed. KEEP PLAYERS PLAYING AND GET IT DONE is my philosophy. I play as well and I can't stand waiting for matches especially when I see OPEN TABLES! As a player, I come to shoot pool...PERIOD! And that is what I expect from players that come and participate in my events. I make things quite clear at the beginning of the tournament that I need the tournament to keep moving. I don't allow cigarette breaks...there is plenty of time between matches to smoke. The only break I allow is the obvious...restroom. We're all adults...lol. It worked out well...the no break policy wasn't abused at all.

I used 6 tables for the 1st 2 to 2.5 hours...then I brought it down as the field was getting smaller. It worked out great...with small races, it makes things a bit easier.

Hope to see you at the next one,
