I plan my flights in/out of Chicago to visit family etc, and I also had booked/cancelled my flight to the US Open/Mandalay. When I did cancel the one to Vegas, they told me my credits/dollars were good till end of June 2021. That seemed fair since it was one of their cheapest's flight when you book 6 mths ahead of time. Welllllllllllll, I just called to cancel my next flight to Chicago for this June. They told me my dollars were only redeemable till end of Feb. 2021. Hummmmmmmm....that's a move from my point of view, but the gal on the other end told me Not to cancel this quite yet, and to wait till it nears the date of dept. as they may Change the Feb. timeline. Wow. Different payout rules for different flight months, hummmmmmmm. It feels similar to playing someone in pool who can't beat you, and wants to change the rules as time passes. Anyone else have a similar experience with Southwest Airlines?

Each airline has different policies now due to "waivers" - meaning they are allowing certain exceptions to their usual cancellation policies. The typical credit validity if you cancel is one year from date of purchase (not date of travel) , but in many cases this has been extended depending on when you bought the ticket (due to the pandemic).

The best thing to do is get on the airline's website and see specifically what their policies are. Always remember to save your record locator and ticket number to cash in for future credit.

Here is southwest's current policy: https://www.southwest.com/Coronavirus/?clk=CORONAVIRUS_TA&cbid=4430033

I take it you don’t fly too often and can’t use the credits?

As long as they are redeemable within a year of the original booking, you are getting what you contracted to. If one or both exceeds one year, even better.

IMO, of all the airlines, SWA is the farest.

Something isn’t right here and I think you should give them another call. I fly SW often because they are fair and reasonable. I had to cancel several flights after March 1 due to travel restrictions and the funds can be used until feb 2022. It may be because I’m A-List select but I don’t think so.
