I'm not trying to knock your tournament...I'm not worried about it either...two different parts of the state like I said I know yall will have a good one...I was just asking about the format and process...

Thanks

I'll go out on a limb and apoligize if I mistook your intentions.

Actually, this tournament (All this was posted in previous threads) was originally designed for League Players. I think the original name was Texas Open League Players Tour since the intent was to give the league player a "Big Tournament" experience and limit the Grand Master, Master, Road Whores and Hustlers who don't normall play a lot if any league pool from coming in and hijacking it. The folks who run the Texas Open asked if a different name could be used since Texas Open had been linked to them for years.

That kind of went by the wayside due to players saying there is no organized league in my local. So the league requirement was dropped but the ability to say "Hey, your a known Master or real good player and your not going to hijack this tiurnament, you can play in the Master Div if you want" was kept.

9-ball is a longer race

Trigga,

The only difference was a Race to 5 for your event versus 7 or 9 in the proposed upcoming 9-ball SWAT event. So no math here really, just knowing a triple elimination format with longer races will cost more, unless your chopping them up after the first round loss.

I didn't even see it was a longer race... I just liked the experience of a triple elimination tourney and was expressing that. ;)

According to the flyer, a credit card can be used through paypal. I suppose you can call Robert and ask him if he'll take a cc over the phone?

I don't see the that the schedule is unclear. :)

Make it clear! Come on, Ray....where are your priorities?

Ray's been saying he'll come to one of these for a year now.

I play on his Diamonds at STIX II and once in a blue moon I go up to his event in Waco.

Where's the support Ray:confused:

No, wait.... I know. Ray is going to the North Texas Shootout to play Zach :D

I believe that Scotch begins at 9AM on Friday morning and Singles start at 4PM. I think for future events there is some consideration for pushing back singles until 6PM so that some players don't have to take off work.

hello my name is Ric Jones and I furnish the tables for Tabors events. I can't express enough how important it is for as many players as possible to show up at this event even if they don't play. Saturday night we will have a meeting. I will be very interested in everyones input on what they want at these events. We need to mix it up and make them the best possible events out there. Please come and voice your opinion. These tournaments are for the players.

That's a low blow Steve!:poke: (right in my eye)

This event has consistantly been scheduled poorly for MY schedule.

I want to come to one!!!! I want to throw my whole support behind this tour. Just hasn't worked out.

I still may make it!

As much as you love pool and the big tournament atmosphere, I know you want to make one of these. If not for the playing , then to swap lies with everyone :D

The real reason I'm trying to get you there is simple.......I want to call a foul on you.

There will be a meeting on Saturday and everyone is urged to make it there if possible. The tour directors want to hear from the players what they want out of this tour.

Just kidding Ray, you know I call the game the way I see it, regardless of who the player is.

Only a couple of weeks away... but deadline is THIS Friday! I wonder who has signed up already... hmmm.....

I have to work that weekend so I won't be able to be there for the "meeting" but I am going to try to stop by later that evening or Sunday.

My vote is to move the location to the Austin area. The tournaments located in Austin always seem to have the best attendance compared to the other stops on the same tours, the Hunter and Fast Eddies stops that are at Fast Eddies in Round Rock every year both have the largest turn outs.

I did not attend the last SWAT tournament but I also heard many complaints about the triple eliminations being very expensive. Many players, even the ones that placed high, said the weekend wasn't worth the money they won after they factor in the table costs, gas and hotel. I understand wanting have more guarenteed number of matches but in the long run it might hurt attendance.

That's really weird... I was there and didn't hear anyone complain about triple elimination. (maybe they figured out their expenses, though, after they got home?). I came through the losers side and didn't once think about cost. But then again, I was enjoying the bca-like tourney so much!

But, if that's what people say is one of the reasons they may not attend, then it obviously needs to be looked at... especially for the 9ball tourney like Lonestar_jim mentioned earlier.

The meeting sounds like an excellent idea and am glad they are having it - it proves they are having these tournaments for the players and they want to hear our thoughts. :)

Welcome to the forums, Cristina!

Apples and Oranges

I'm sure the people in Dallas feel the same way as do the ones in Houston and San Antonio. If you look at the poll numbers , only 20% would like to see it moved so I don't think it's an issue. I heard lots of players say they liked having it there.

You're comparing tournaments of different levels. This has been covered in previous posts so I won't cover it again other than to say The Fast Eddies Tournament draws a different type of field.

This tournament uses the Diamond Bar Boxes, so if you're suggesting that this could be done in a G-Cues or Clicks or Fast Eddies.......that won't happen.

This was moved to Harker Heights E-Center because it was centrally located, it could handle the amount of tables needed, food and drink are available and I'm sure the price was right without it being tied to hotel ballroom that required guarenteed sleep nights which are never met.

Plenty of local hotels and eatery available and it's located on a major highway just west of I-35.

If you can provide better than that, I'm sure the promoters would be willing to listen.

Triple elimination isn't bad. It's not my cup of tea either, but if you're good then it's just a few more dollars and if your not quite that good, it gives you the chance to play at least one extra round. If you're really good it shouldn't matter.

If you have average turnout and only double elimination.......what happens when the table costs are not met. The promoter is stuck paying it. That doesn't make for a healthy tournament lifespan. People don't go on with something if it loses money.

I've also officiated several events held at pool halls that were not very kind to the tournament. Like having waitresses continually walk between table while a match was in progress asking if you needed anything or taking tables out of play on Friday or Saturday night so they could run their card tournaments.
