Southwest Amateur Tournament - Temple TX 17-19 OCT

Please sign up for this event asap if we do not get enough players then we cannot do it. Please let all league operators know that we are running this event. My phone is 702-738-4950. Let's work together and make this a success. Thank you, pool needs everyones support.

New Information

As anyone that has looked at these posts has seen, the Tournament Company that provides the tables for the BCAPL State Tournament as well as the S.W.E.L. Tournament and the Tournament in this post is now producing these tournaments.

Rick and Bonnie Jones do a stand up job.

In order to hold a barbox tournament of this size they need the players to show up.

Depending on the number of entries received they may be able to cancel the Triple Elimination format and go with Double Elimination. In addition, if they go with Double Elimination that will free up enough tables to ensure that plenty of mini tournaments will be run. 8 Ball, 9 Ball, Scotch, Ring games.....the possiblities are endless.

Bottom Line: If you want this type tournament on Diamond bar boxes, then support it

I am going to sign up for this tournament

I love these events and hope all you other pool maniacs come on out and participate. It's like having a mini-BCA Nationals, only it is cheaper than flying out to Vegas and the hotel rooms are cheaper.

I especially love the Diamond tables. I drive from Dallas and look forward to these kind of events. I, for one, don't understand why all the league players in the Killeen, Austin area which are so close to Harker Heights don't show up for this.

I see on killeen-billiards.com in the last 4 years, they took 32 teams to Vegas. Hmmmm, let's see minimum 5 players to a team--that's 160 players. Now you don't have to go to Vegas. This tournament is right in your back yard.

Come on out folks. Good times for everyone and who knows you might win some cash and meet some new friends in the process.

Also APA touts 250,000+ members---where are all those Texas, Oklahoma APA players? Maybe they are scared...I don't know. Let the good times roll baby!!!! :groucho:

Here is the deal...as I know it

Some people call me negative.....I think of myself as a realist :p
If the sky is grey, I think it might rain. If the sun comes out I'm happy but if it rains I don't get bummed cuz I expected it.

Hmmmmm, my league and Las Vegas? Don't get me started
Of all the teams that have gone out there, maybe 2 (I was a member of both of them , since I attempt to play my best pool and try to surround myself with like minded players) had a realistic chance of getting into the money. Don't ask about the trophy division since my feeling is why go to Vegas to win a trophy, I do that here at home.

So from about, let's say 200 players, there is a handful of players that will make the trip to Vegas. Now let's break it down further, of that there are only a few that actually go out there to try and win the nationals. The majority go out there for a gambling, drinking, eating and things I can't mention on a family oriented forum vacation :D In the back of their minds they may indeed harbour a tiny thought of "OMG, what if we win this", but that fades almost as quickly as the gambling stash they took with them.

A local tournament with an entry of over $20.....forget it.

I do plan to make copies of the flyer and take them up to the Temple area which is a longtime APA stronghold. We'll see? When they hear you have to call your ball and pocket.....enough said ;)

Look forward to seeing you there, see if you can talk Doc into coming along. We have a challenge match (A tie breaker if you will) he's been ducking for some time now.

Before I get a bunch hate posts, this written to get a laugh. Unfortunately it's all true

Yes?

Can I play in the seniors and the open.

Charlie,

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say yes. There probably won't be that many Seniors so we can schedule around it. If it approaches a full field, then we might have to re-tink that.

If you would like something to happen at this event let us know what it is. Such as smaller tournaments or certain types of mini's

There has been some interest in a side competition of "Speed Pool"

Here is a suggestion from a different post

Great idea! Here's another- $10 entry 3 trys with the top four times making the finals! Then the fastest time takes on the 4th fastest with the winner playing the winner of the 2nd and 3rd fastest qualifing times.

and furthermore

Winner take all!! And the finals would be battle style. 1st vs. 4th time and two tables race to three games. Both games would start simultaneously. And Bigtruck can get a plaque that reads "Az Speed Pool King!"

Bump For The Weekend

Don't let IKE stop you from signing up, this is going to be a fun tournament

I am trying to figure out if I qualify to play in your tourney.

I don't have a partner.
I'm not a Master.
I'm not a woman, for sure.
I'm not senior. Not yet.
I'm not a league player.
I'm not as popular as Bigtruck & not as good looking as Melinda.
Seriously, I'm just looking for some fun. Can I play?

I hope the flyer isn't confusing in anyway?

From the list of things you are not, it sounds like the "Open" division is the one for you. Only women that can play in that division are Masters.

Since you're not a woman, Melinda wins that one.

Nobody will be as popular as BigTruck, who has the time to post every 30 minutes. I heard he does that cuz he's worried people might forget him....jk Ray.

You do not have to be a league player to play in this tournament. For Future tourneys I'll recommend that area be removed.

we would like some response on this thread about what is desired in the future as far as tournaments go

What people want more than anything is to have fun!!! Have a good time!!! That's what MOST people are there for anyways. Only a few will leave with more money than they came with, at least make it fun!

I have just as much fun listen to all the BS and harassment. Don't get me wrong, I love the competition and the game, but aside form that I like the socializing.

Keep Scotch

Keep the Scotch Double Division. I enjoy playing Scotch Doubles with my wife and since we do not play APA our chances are limited throughout the year.

Also , maybe look at adding a team event once in awhile? The only time we get to play teams is State and Vegas

Okay, I'll state my thoughts again.

I think more advertising with leagues in the state would be good.

I also think the misinformation is not helpful. I think that hurts. I heard the BCA sent an email or something out with wrong info. Have they been contacted so a correction can be sent back out? This is KEY - the more contact with the right information the better.

I also think it this isn't just for league players then the flyers/info need to be updated to say so.

I really like the scotch doubles tournament. Not many tournaments have them anymore, so this is one of the few tournaments around that still have it.

I like the Diamond 7 foot tables. I prefer 9 foot tables, but I know money needs to be made some where. But, I do like to play on 7 foot tables, also.

I think starting the Singles events Saturday morning is good for those that can't be there Friday evening b/c of work. Good change.

I like the location of this tournament too - it's center of the state and an easy drive for most.

I also like that it's non smoking.

I would obviously prefer added money (who wouldn't), but I know we need to have more of these events before that can happen.

I think the entry free prices are just right.

I don't mind whether it's double or triple elimination. I just want to play. :)

I'll agree with you 99.9%. Last year this was supposed to be for league players only, but that was dropped rather quickly when it became apparent that a number of areas with players had no sanctioned leagues and it was unfair to exclude them since this was not the players fault.

I think the league info was left on the entry form just to get an idea of how many players are playing in leagues. I will/have recommended that this section be removed for future tournament flyers.

I don't think "advertising" with the state leagues is the problem. I think the problem is getting the league OPS to get the info out. So many players said their league OPS never said a word about it. Far too often in todays society, the "What's in it for me" attitude prevails. If it means an extra sheet of paper in the packets, or a flyer posted in places that have league play (or not) or phone calls to team capt's.........it's not gonna happen simply because there's no incentive.

Before you answer with "They should do it to help promote the sport if they love pool". Not all league OPS love pool and I'll bet some don't even play very much. They are League OPS for the money.

I suggest that the TD gives a free entry to the League OP that has the most entries. Zach does it with some of his tournaments so maybe it could help?

Mailing list

Evelyn and Danny of Midwest tours use this to notify player of up coming tournaments (works for them). I know this is expensive, but it works. I get a flier in the mail every month. My suggestion would be too use e-mail! E-mail the fliers to the players and the results after the tournament. I get news from the BCA on tournaments all the time. If you set up a data base for Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico and send the fliers. You could request a list from the BCA, ACS, VNEA, and APA.

Just a thought!

Charlie,

as far as advertising we are trying to get good addresses for mail and e-mail. We have alot of other ideas that we will address at this event. Thank you for all your input. oh by the way I do know that everyone wants to have fun, it didn't really need to be said.

Ric,

It was said because you are coming off as abrasive and strickly business! You should lighten up a little and leave out the snips. IT needed to be said.

You are not having fun, and it comes across in your posts.
