Southwest cue

I Agree..

Something doesn't look right.....it's either really old or a knockoff .....one of the Southwest Guys out there will let you know for sure.....rings look off and the points aren't right for Southwest.....IMHO

Something is not right about the butt cap, been shaved round?South West used that block ring work during that time frame but the ferrule should be Micarta,in one photo points don't look right but in photo of full cue the points look OK,could be angle of photo, could be real but if so it has been worked on.Need butt cap repaired and LOA from Laurie if it is real.

Art,
Does that large relief hole in the pin remind you of another cue builder?

The last....kirchenbock cue i had i sold to george breedlove about 25 yrs ago. Then everyone started calling them "southwest cues". This looks like an old kirchenbock cue before he sold to his partner and retiring.............its a real "southwest" cue...........sparky webb.....9 ball pro in the 70's.....hope this helps!

The large hole on the pin is on my oldest Jerry FranKlin SW, it's an earlier to mid 80's cue. It appears to be a South West, but at the butt plate where the bumper was removed for the pic, that area appears to have been tampered with. There is usually a type of polymer filler to cover that hole and the weight isn't meant to be adjusted. It looks like someone has tried to remove the filler in an attempt to replace the butt plate or to adjust the weight of the cue. If it is an 83 or 84 SW as Mr. Wright was quoted as saying, then it's been tampered with or maybe Jerry didn't use the polymer filler in the 1st couple of years as South West was founded in 82. You should call Laurie Franklin and ask if Jerry made some of his 1st cues to where the screw hole was showing when you remove the bumper. I do know that Jerry used brass pins like this and some of his ring work looked like this.

Southwest

Thanks for your replies. Like I said it looked a little off to me.

Id try and get it for as cheap as possible and then send it out to Laurie, But something does seem a little off. But worth finding out could have something great on your hands.

Ferrels would most likely be very dark yellow if it was a K-bock or old Jerry cue. I wouldnt want to bet $1000 on this cue being the real deal,

SW as used this pin early on,my first one in 86 had this pin and ring work.If it is real some work has definitely been done on the butt though, looks like the butt cap has been replaced and epoxy has been removed.

I think it is an early SW, nose could be Pau Ferro, Jerry loved that wood, it is in my SWs.

Pretty sure this is a Southwest cue but I'm also certain the butt has been tamper with and the shaft is certainly not original. Based on the ring work, look like someone took the original ring work and put it on anther shaft. For the asking price of 1400.00 is not bad but it's going to be a lot of work. I would send the cue to Laurie for LOA (50), Refinish and make 1 or 2 new shafts (950), Fix the butt cap (75)..so after said and done..you'll have about 2500 into the cue and will probably take 4 to 6 months to have it brand new. Tried to reach out to the seller but look like he no longer selling this cue and the price is now 4300.
