Hello,
I have a question about Southwest cues. I have heard about a certain line of Southwest cues that cost far less then the regular ones. I know very little about Southwest cues in general other then I like the style of Southwest and Howard cues, and the Southwest's that get posted are WAY out of my family budget so thought I'd look in this direction. Any help would be great.
Thanks for your time,
Nathan

Could it be you meant Samsara and the barcue? http://www.samsaracues.com/barcue.php?view=1

As an aside, I own one, and it hits super.

I believe they're called Satin cues. They use a different finish and are less expensive than the typical 6 pointers (but still expensive, relatively speaking). I think they're difficult to find and not sure if still made.

They did not make too many of these and if you can find one in good shape it will still cost well over 1k to purchase. I did buy one in a pawn shop once for 25.00, that looked like it had never been hit:D :D :D

They still make the satin cues according to my good buddy that has been on the wait list for about 5 years. He is scheduled to get a satin cue with his fancier SW. he said it was around $600 for the satin. Laurie also gave him an option to buy several satin cues at once.

Thanks for the info so far everyone. I do believe that that is the line I had heard about. What is the difference between the lines? I see it was posted finish anything else that stands out? I'm guessing designs and wood quality? So finding a used is pretty hard but they may still make them? What is the contact info on Southwest cues or do they have a web page? By the way GREAT find at the pawn shop every once in a great while there's a treasure.
Thanks again everyone,
Nathan

What would the price and wait time be for a Satin? I'm assuming your buddy had the usual long wait time for the fancier one. $600 for a Southwest with two shafts is a bargain.

Far less? Not really. Southwest will sometimes get a production of "Satin Cues" out, or what Jerry Frankline called, "pacifers."

They are plane maple cues with a wrap, and Southwest specifications. I don't think you get a pick of weight or balance. They don't make them often. And today, I don't believe they come with a cactus and certainly not a number. For some reason, I'm thinking that some pacifiers were made with the cactus, and people would resell them with dubious intentions of deception.

I want to say that they approach $1K.

His satin cue is ebony, no points, with a white/ black spec linen wrap.

I have no idea if they sell them alone, but I know that his is coming with the fancier cue. He said that the price was $600 for the cue. I didn't ask if it came with two shafts. I have already offered him $850 for it :D

Ok, I decided to call and just got off the phone with Al at Southwest cues. The satin cues come with no finish whatsoever. The ring work is not anywhere near on a par with the regular cues. The butt wood is seconds. Al said maple. Weight wise, you take what you get. They make 12-15 of these every
1 1/2-2 years. There is a wait list. They sell, at this time, for $720.00 with one shaft. Hope this clears things up a bit.

yeah, they did offer the option to have a satin/pacifier when you purchased a regular model. According to Laurie it got the name because he would get them something to play with while they were waiting in the limbo known as the decade or 10 year waiting list. Theory is that you could get this one in year or so and you would not constantly call busting his chops on a finish date for your original order. I have both on order and I am still patiently waiting since 1999....

Again thanks great info. I have another question when ordering a Southwest new what is the price comparison between new and secondary market say for a basic styled cue? I understand the long wait plays into the price just curious. Also still wondering is there a web page for Southwest cues or do you just call and talk to them over phone? and if by phone how do I come across their contact info?
Thanks!

They have pretty much always sold for more on the secondary market because you don't have to wait. How much is pretty much whatever the market will bear. There is no web page.
By the way, the number is in the Blue Book of Pool Cues under contact information, in the back.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info and education on the Southwest cues. Pushout thanks for the help and number (I remembered the Blue Book last night) and Mr. Hoppe thanks for the cue directory very helpful.
Thanks!
Nathan

don't be fooled i have a 2001 southwest satin wrap cue and it plays better than most southwest cues i've hit. a friend of mine has one identical to mine and it hits as good or better than mine. i've heard about the "second wood" and i'm not sure but i think they may let their apprentices take part in making them. a good person to ask is cuaba. he is the authority!
