Recently there was some confusion as to the proper spelling of "Jewett." Was it Hewitt, Jewit, Hewit, or possibly Jewette? I finally have the answer below.

Just wanted to clear things up...

A nice find, and Go Bears! I see that the town was a feed zone for the Tour of the Catskills bicycle race. I assume that would be for the cyclists rather than the bears.

But you seem to have missed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewett_City,_Connecticut which was founded by my cousin Eleazer a little earlier than the one you found in upstate NY:

Eleazer Jewett is described in Miss Calkin's History of Norwich, Conn., as being the founder of the thriving and beautiful village of Jewett City, a man of sterling worth, marked business tact and as enterprising as he was honest. Beginning with only a small farm and a mill seat on Patchaug River, he lived to see a flourishing village spread round him enriched with mills, stores, mechanical operations and farms in an improved state of tillage, to which the public gave the familiar name of Jewett City.

"As enterprising as he was honest" -- so that's where I got it from.

There's also an East Jewett, NY right next to Jewett... east of there, I think. But the people of Jewett wouldn't be caught dead in East Jewett so I didn't bother taking a picture of their town sign.

I knew that town name sounded familliar.

as a child my family would go to the Catskills every summer to visit Grandma & Grandpa, lots of great memories from those days.

Grandpa used to shoot a real good game of pool too !!!

Actually Jewett is spelled "Teller." Gail and I caught his moonlighting act on Broadway at the Marquis Theater last month.

Get with the program, Lou! I harassed Bob over that one many years ago. Actually, if you think about it, a physicist and a magician are about the same thing...
