Speaking of Jump Cue Pins-

My J/B has the g10 pin for both parts. I have never seen or even heard of this being done in another instance. Then the other thread got me thinking that maybe someone else has one. Anybody know if I have the only one with 2 g10 pins?
Thanks much!

I have never heard of or seen one before. What kind of thread is Pat using on your J/B cue?

Do you think there is a difference in the hit as a result of him using the G-10?

Thank you.

Richard

The pin's a 3/8x11. I am not convinced there is a noticable difference as a result of the material. But it does look cool and people agree, I get asked about the pins all the time and when I say 'glass' pin , they give me a WTF look?!?
I like it!

It is a very solid pin, the difference in hit could mainly result from weight differential.

Is it really true that G-10 is as hard as steel but with the closest resonance to wood?
By weight differential, do you mean that it is lighter? How does it help to balance the cue better? Could you please explain?
Thank you.

I have also heard that the pin "snugs up" very tightly. I think it was AZB that I heard it?

Pins vary depending on cuemakers, G10 is the lightest and closest to the weight of Maple. It doesn't mean it's better, it's just another option. Any pin can have a close tolerance thread, (Snug fit) if the correct size hole is done and the right thread is done. I have found in this industry that more cuemakers are grinding their threads instead of tapping. And the taps that are available are not the right size for the pin that is being used. There is also confusion between a proper thread and an interferance thread. One screws together correctly and one grinds as it screws together, This is also called Positive and negative hook in Machine shops.
When creating a cue, Certain stages are looked at for balancing,
1st. woods cored and uncored to make up the butt.
2nd. Average bolt needed for forearm to handle splice. This is one of the most important parts of balancing a cue. It will vary depending on what joint is desired, (Stainless, flatfaced) and what kind of hit you are peresonally looking for.
Sorry, sometimes I get wound up and just keep typing.

I don't mind you typing Mike... :D
What do you mean by average bolt?

Based on the system used, Cored and Natural. Every Cuemaker uses what is his average or standard bolt at the splice for repetition of his or her balance point. The weight of the woods will vary and every Cuemaker can be different. This is the starting point based on what the weight and balance of the cue. Every Cuemaker produces their own hit. Shaft tapers and weights also play a role in this. That's why I say please

Yeah, that jumper is pretty incredible. People are always asking me to show them how and about the technique. I tell 'em its all the cue and they give me th "whatever". But it really does have LOTS to do with the cue.
Pat rules!
