Since speed pool began airing on espn a few years ago, i think its gaining popularity. If not with pool players, it definitely draws non pool players to watch. Most of my friend who dont play pool hate pool when i turn it on because they say its slow and boring. Just recently a buddy of mine watched a friend of mine, bobby mcgrath, win for the second year in a row. He enjoyed watching those balls fly around the table. I just read that jason Kane won the speed pool challenge in the last acs nationals. I like speed pool but the only speed pool player i have enjoyed watching is mcgrath and salvas. Janette lee and jason kane were horrible the first year it aired. Im hoping jason kane doesnt get on tv again. Not that he is a bad player, i just think there are faster players out there. How bout Tony Drago or vivian viveral ? I would rather see luc salvas again rather than jason kane. Dave pearson is ok but come on three years in a row and he hasnt won. I know the champ and runner up automatically get to come back but I think Mcgrath is really the only reason people watch speed pool. I wouldnt watch it if pearson was the champ. So just wanted to say i think they need some new blood in speed pool,

I posted a thread on speed pool a few weeks ago, expecting to get bashed, but was surprised by the number of respondents who recognized the skills necessary to pull off a run in a minute or less.
Just try it once yourself, then tell me it doesn't require skill. McGrath is a fine player in his own right, from what I understand. And the entertainment value is very good.
Until real pool is repackaged with better commentary and formats, it's doomed to live in the background. Without broadcasts in high-def, you can't recognize the balls. But in speed pool, it's not necessary. And it does entertain the non-pool crowd.

Luc Salvas won that year because he rarely missed. He didn't move from shot to shot as well as the others, but he made more of his shots.

Speed pool is only marginally better than speed grocery pool putting away. Speed pool is is marginally worse than speed showering.
