Splitting The Hairs

I came to the table with this layout the other day and my opponent thought I was trapped into playing a safe. Little did he know that the one ball had about 1/2 a pocket. The balls were staggered in such a fashion that there was sort of an "optical illusion" and it looked "iffy" if the one would pass through the four balls without touching them.

I knew there was about 1/2 inch clearance between the final two balls, but the shot would have to be hit perfectly. Not only that, the cue ball would have to be stopped within 1/2 inch of the one in order to stay on the two which was partially hidden by the ball near it. If you rolled forward more than 1/2 inch there was no way to make it in the corner pocket.

I jokingly told my partner that it looked like I was "OUT" and said "watch this, I'm going to slam that one in like Earl Strickland and stop the cue ball on a dime".

I lined up and there was a very, very, very slight angle on the shot to the pocket. It wasn't exactly straight which would make killing the cue ball difficult.

I hit the ball with a LOT of pace and stun and hit it just right. The one ball flew between the four blockers and hit center pocket and the cue ball stopped like it had hit a MAC truck, perfect on the two. I then ran out and that was the final game.

My "As seen on TV" shot is what I called it.

It is always funny when you see one like that and you KNOW you are gonna fire I I it in...

Then you slam it right into al the balls and there is shit flying everywhere!

LMAO! I KNOW what you mean and I was fully prepared for that. :)

But I felt "LUCKY"!

Aloha. :)

Nice shot. That's one of those "I'll look like a pro shot" or a "What the hell was he even trying to do shot?" because every ball on the table moved :-)

I like excitement. :) I could have clipped the one and floated the cue ball down behind the cluster (hopefully) or any of the other safety possibilities, but it wouldn't have been as much fun.

How did you get into position for the 4?

I shot the 2 in the corner after I stopped where the 1 was. I rolled a bit forward so that I would be a bit away from the 6 so that it didn't interfere with my bridge and then I shot the 3 in the corner and dragged the cue ball behind the 4 and up the rail to shoot the 4 in the same corner.

Awesome shot! It's one of those shots you will remember for a long time:)

I had a very similar shot a couple yrs back! My cue ball was very close to the spot. My one ball was near your 5 straight in to the pocket. My 2 was at the 9. I had to clusters close like yours but the 2 balls near the 1 had a good ball and a half between them and the other 2 were just about half way up the table with less than that! I had to draw the ball back to the rail,,,, and I did:) was probably one of my best shots that I can't ever forget.

And no, I didn't run out, I miscued on the 2;)

Anyway, nice shot;)
