Two quick questions-

Q 1: What is your make % on a spot shot from the kitchen shooting with low outside?

Q 2: What is your make % on the same shot but at slow roll speed?

I have played a lot of pool in my days but never took the time to try it both ways. I found the results fascinating to say the least, but don't want to interfere with other posters. Lets get some stats first, discussion later.

PS- Please don't guess! I want to hear from people that set this up and tried it both ways. Thanks!

I will go try it. I know my % is high on both. How many did you hit 100 each?

Are shooting from spot? I set this up in the kitchen and missed 1 slow rolling in 50 tries. This would be 98%. The out side bottom I made 46 or 92%. I tired with bottom inside and missed 4 outta 20 (didn't want to miss anymore and stopped). I better practice the inside! This drill is easy from the side though, just setup half ball hit.
 
I have practiced this shot several times before. I also have a easier time using outside low than inside low. Slow rolling it is a weak spot for me. My aim doesn't seem to be as sharp when I slow roll it. A medium speed with low english seems to be the easier shot. I didn't write down results, but these descriptions are accurate.

Wow, 90%+ is very impressive for either type of shot.

Please elaborate a bit more about the half ball hit technique that you use. I have tried it but depending on exactly where the spot is on the table and how much the balls are throwing I never trusted it as much as feel. I am open minded though.

My own results were much less impressive. The spot shot at cinch speed (for me low outside) I was at 60% (30 out of 50). What was interesting is the roll %, I made just 20%, 10 out of 50.

Of course my table has very worn cloth, buckling slate, and possible a slight lean, but it is still playable. So a few of those shots certainly rolled off slightly, and those misses can shake your confidence in your slow roll ability.

Now I want to try this again on a nice level diamond on newer cloth to see if I can do any better.

The point of all this was that I have seen many one pocket players miss the spot shot trying to slow roll it for shape/safety, and was just curious how much of a trade off it is for a good player's make %.

Some people are so used to throwing in this sort of shot with low outside, that it wouldn't shock me if they made low outside more often than straight center, draw, or follow.

By a weird coincidence today I practiced spot shots, something I never do, before I even read this post. Unfortunately I didn't try it exactly this way, I only practiced with the CB far out to the side and shooting with a rail bridge and a sort of medium pace (CB stops around the side).

I was a little disappointed with the results. I shot 12 and made 9, so 75%. Not sure if it's from the rail bridge or the slightly less than crisp pace or just general weak shotmaking.

I will try it the way you asked next time, though maybe you could spell out how slow "slow rolling" is. CB doesn't get more than 1 diamond away from foot rail? 2 diamonds?
 
Zero and Zero both ways. I just use a center ball hit and avoid english on long shots and try to use enough speed to avoid roll off.

Here is how I measured the slow roll. I put a ball on the side rail half a diamond from my opponents pocket. I tried to roll the spot ball in my corner without risking giving up the shot if I missed and possibly playing the bank if I make it.

I am not suggesting that is the right move, by the way, that isn't the point. That was just how I was practicing.

I was just amazed at how much tougher the shot was at that speed for me and now that I know it may affect future ball in hand decisions.
 
Low outside is not how I cinch a spot shot. My highest make percentage on this shot is with center top. I don't slow-roll it but I don't hit it hard either; I use about enough speed to follow the CB to the end rail and back to the center of the table, or maybe slightly further.
