Spotted Frozen Pair Update

I went back to the table last night just to shoot the shot when I spotted a tool that had a degree measurement on it. So, I checked my peace sign, and it's closer to 40 degrees, not 30 degrees. Obviously, this isn't a trivial correction.

So, if everyone tried my system taking the time to measure out 30 degrees, you'll have missed high every time. Sorry about that. I'll go edit my diagram.

What's more important is that you have a legal tool for repeatability. The reason this even came up was that I had to shoot a frozen pair during a match, and it wasn't frozen on the spot. I did the peace sign thing, and of course, my teammates were wondering what the hell I was doing. LOL!!

I was thinking that I'm going to look pretty dorky standing at the table measuring this shot out. But... it won't look so dorky when the ball goes in the hole! Besides.. I look pretty dorky most of the time. It comes natural.

I was playing Joe Salazar in Vegas last year; I was looking at a one rail kick that I would normally measure out using the double out rule. Well since I was playing Joe I didn?t want to embarrass myself by using some technique and of course I missed the shot. Joe commented that?s an easy kick, I lowered my head and walked to my chair. A few minutes later I left Joe the same type of shot. I liked to fell over when approched the table and started measuring it out with the same technique I was to embarrassed to use. Moral of story IF IT WORKS DO IT!

I tried it last night in my basement on a 7' bar box and I had to move the cue closer to center than what you show but I made it on the 3rd and 4th tries. I'll try again tonight at leagues. Also, I went from hitting it hard the first two times to firm the last two tries, so I'm not sure what made the most difference, the angle or speed or both.

i have done this before but i tried it again last night for the first time in a while. i was playing on a valley bar box that was just recovered. the first two i tried i had the head ball hitting the bottom rail around the first diamond. i moved a little further out and i would make it about every time. i didn't use your peace sign way i just eyed it and adjusted from there.

Yes, most "peace signs" that people make are not 30 degrees. You can see that your original drawing didn't use 30 degrees because the starting angle you are "eating into" is the 45 degrees from the spot to the pocket, and subtracting only 30 degrees from that would leave 15 degrees, or half of 30 degrees, which was clearly not what the diagram showed.

If anyone wants to try the "ten times fuller" system for this shot, it says that when you are down in shooting position, and you intend to hit the front ball full, your stick should pass over the cushion 2/3 of a diamond from the middle. If you use draw and the balls are sticky, you might need a little more angle.
