Spray a Linen wrap?

A friend of mine has been playing with the same Meucci cue for a lot of years. The Meucci has the coating over the wrap.
Now he has a new cue with exposed linen and he does not like it.
So the question is can you mask off the wood above and below the wrap and spray the Linen with enough coats of polyurethane from a can to replicate the Meucci wrap?

The Meucci wrap groove is deeper so that the wrap PLUS the finish ends up flush with the rest of the cue. Just using a finish over an already flush wrap will create a raised wrap area compared to the rest of the cue. It will not feel the same as his original Meucci. The correct way would be to unwrap it, then cut the channel deeper the proper amount then wrap it with linen, and then finish over that the proper amount to acheive the flush wrap that it should be.
It maybe cheaper and easier to just buy another Meucci and sell this cue to someone that likes a straight wrap.

If you have mastered the super glue finish, it is one of the easiest to do this with on cues that already have a finish on them. Next would be some finish cure epoxy.
