squeak

I have a new BCM cue with a 3/8-11 pin to wood joint and it is difficult to screw together and squeaks loudly when screwing together. Is this normal ? Will it get easier, quieter? What about a bit of oil or lube ?

Rub just a bit of bar soap on the pin and screw it into the shaft a few times, it will be fine. Avoid oil and other liquids.

Why wouldn't you call Mr. Mordt and ask him instead of posting here? I called him with a question and he was quick to help and great to deal with.

I normally use cue wax to solve that problem. But most players who are not repairmen would not have that on hand, so the soap is an excellent suggestion.

If you don't have soap(!!!!) you have to have a birthday candle around somewhere. Rub the wax on the screw and in the hole(!!!) and screw to your hearts content with no squeak at all.

I would like to add to take care & NOT get too much wax into the shaft. I have seen more than once where a customer dripped wax into the shaft...then when screwing the cue together it cracked the shaft.
Just a q-tip with a drop of dish soap works fine too.
