Stacked Leather on Production Cue

I recently replaced my starter playing cue with this McDermott G428. The cue is new to 2017 and I really liked the design.

Mine is turned down to 12.5mm with a Kamui clear black S tip. It also sports a stacked leather wrap from Ryan (Rat) Theewen at Muellers. I had him do a penetration wrap stained black/dark brown.

:)

Whoa! You not only listed the maker of the cue but also who modified it? Aren't you afraid they will get mobbed with orders and will have to quit and move to the desert to avoid more work and angry AZBers taunting them?

Now that I got that out of the system, did you try the cue with another shaft? You turned down the G Core but I think it plays a lot stiffer and with more defection than the other McD shafts like the i models. Nice thing about McDs is that they use a 3/8x10 pin which is common with custom cuemakers so you have lots of shaft options if you want to try out new stuff without needing to change the full cue.

I have been using a G Core shaft to break with and it's great for that, if you ever swap playing shafts you should try it as a break shaft.

Very nice looking cue, the wrap goes perfectly with the rest of the cue
How do you like the feel of the stacked wrap? I have been thinking about rewrapping my Predator with the same wrap style

Oh, I just got the G core because this model came with it. If you like the pretty cue, you've got to pay for the shaft we're selling it with - I'd have been happy with plain maple, and am not inclined to experiment any more right now.

I DO like this cue's feel. I like the slightly padded grip, and a little bit more grippy than my Irish linen or my son's embossed leather, I like the way it hits - I'm very happy with it.

If you are used to playing with a normal shaft the G Core will be good. The leather grip installation looks perfect and matches the cue nicely.

It does look great!

I've had my stack leather wrap for over 10 years now with lots of play - it's still in great shape. For the first few years, I had it re-sealed by Tiger a few times. I decided I liked the worn-in feel better. This is a great product. To me the feel is firm, like wrapless, but with the added touch of smooth leather.

Stacked LEather on Production Cue

It is very nice. I like personalizing the production cues to be able to identify my equipment if it grows legs somehow in the pool room.
Sure is nice that Billiard Suppliers are offering these services and products. Seyberts has a selection of photos of stacked leather wraps on their cue pages for Predator and Shone I believe.

Stacked leather wrap is nice. I had the 1st predator break cue many years ago & everyone who tried it thought it would be a great shooting cue & as it turned out, they were correct. It had a linen wrap which I realized I never really liked. Since it was black with the gold predator logos, I had a gold stacked leather wrap installed on it. Looked amazing & played great. Hope you enjoy yours just as much.

I played with a traditional leather wrap for five years....
...the stacked leather is far superior....
...and like Tate says, let it wear a bit instead of refinishing....
...it becomes comfortable, like an old leather jacket.

The G-Core shaft is also an EXCELLENT playing shaft, so don't just reserve it for breaking! I've played with one for many years, and have one of the very first G-Core shafts made by the inventor...who also invented and manufactured the Stinger break/jump cues (now also manufactured by McDermott).

Lance Cowles, of Battle Creek MI, is also an expert installer of the stacked wrap. He just showed me a Predator break cue that he installed a stacked wrap on and it is literally perfect. PM me for Lance's info.
