stainless steel over ivory joint....

guys i am having a brain fart....has this been done with success? i love the hit of ivory but am having a very traditonal style cue made....was wandering if anyone has pics of a piloted joint with that setup....thanks mickey

Hi Mickey, It has been done, I wish I had the picture you are looking for, I'm taking your stainless over ivory, not the ivory over stainless like the pictures posted?? The one I did, I used a 3/4X16 stainless threaded collar and just threaded the ivory to accept it. This way, you could still see the actual ivory versus using a full stainless joint.
Option 2- if you wanted the weight of a full stainless joint, just bore open the i.d. on the stainless from, say .500 to .625 so an ivory spacer could be used to give the appearance of an inner ivory joint.

You can sleeve stainless with Ivory and give the look of Ivory with the hit of Stainless, but I think if you do the reverse it will still hit more like stainless than Ivory, so I don't see any real benefit to it. That is probably why it has rarely been done.

Can you explain?..why you think the hit wouldnt change enough to be

IMHO - it all depends on the relative thickness of the materials. If you
used a VERY thin SS - think just a shell of SS - IMHO - the hit would be,
for all intents and purposes, just like Ivory.
