Standard Simonis Green

Ok, I am about to have new Simonis put on my Gold Crown IV. I've decided against the Chartreuse because after staring at my sample for 2-3 weeks it does seem hard on the eyes. So once again I am pondering going with English Green or Standard Simonis Green.

Attached is a pic of the Standard Simonis Green 860 that I had put on my GCIV several years ago. And below is a link to a video of Simonis cloth being installed on an Olhausen Champion Pro. Notice the difference in the two. My sample pic is way - WAY - darker than the video. There cant be that much difference due to lighting either.

So my question is - nowadays has Simonis made their Standard Green lighter? Or is that a different shade of Simonis going on the Olhausen? If so, what color?

I am hoping for the lightest shade of green I can find but if its the same shade of green as in my sample then that is still way too dark.

Could be one of those things that you really can't visualize on a small scale, like a yellow paint sample vs a whole room painted in that same yellow.

It is great cloth. Sometimes, the right color finds you.

i am sure you have seen this

scroll on the different greens to see what it looks like on the table
better yet
i bet you could get a piece of each color from whomever you are buying it from
to actually see wht the colors look like

Interesting you can pick all these obscene colors for a pool table but for snooker you get one, the original English Green.

Shouldnt be a huge shock. I would argue that most pool tables are not sold to hardcore pool players. Most are sold to folks who are more concerned with "color coordinating" the table to the room.;)

I started with dark green(great but marks showed more)red(pink shade on cue from chalk), now blue, my next one will be standard green, seems like the balls show up more. Blue seems harsh somewhat

Have

I have the standard green on my Diamond table installed 4 years ago . I am thinking the next time of going with English Green. Marc Gregory has used that on two Centennial's he has done and showed them both here on AZ.
It seems to be a lighter brighter color like used on Snooker tables.

Good question. Maybe it's a shade lighter than it used to be? Or it's probably a combination of things like the color of the table & the light.

Here's a pic of my table with new Standard Green Simonis 860 in 2012, and then again new Standard green Simonis 860 on my current GCI put on in 2016. It looks substantially lighter.

BTW, I gave the old table (with light and cloth) to a friend of mine and it still looks darker than mine.

For the millionth time, it's not the color. It is your lighting.

Simonis Blue/green V. Simonis Green

Same table, same light. Both of these cloths are blindingly bright.

I've already suggested you have your eyes checked for cataracts, but you blocked me. Sorry, this is the best advice on this thread and you won't see it.

If you question the light falloff, take a course in photography; not pool...

Nice pictures Lewie, most appreciated. You are right, hard to believe that's the same cloth.

And I just talked to my mechanic. He says it has varied just slightly over the last year or two, but not much at all. Its basically the same shade. The dye and lot must not have changed much.

Going with English Green. Wish them folks at Simonis would make a light green shade of 860. They would probably break their sales records if they did.

Simonis green is what you want - it is not dark at all. We've used it in our poolroom here for years and it is the only shade of green Simonis I would ever consider using here. English green is for 12' snooker tables.

If you contact Simonis, they should send you a small swatch. If not, give me your address and I'll send you a small sample of Simonis Green 860 HR. It is at least as bright if not brighter than the english snooker green. If you are concerned about having the brightest cloth you can have so the balls show up as good as possible, I strongly suggest LED flourescent tube lighting over your pool table. It's not cheap, but it's well worth it!

I've seen enough samples over the years. Standard Simonis Green is simply too dark for my taste.

Hard to understand how you think it could be took dark, when you look at Bob's photo of his beautiful antique Brunswick table with Simonis green cloth on it, but I guess everyone sees colors differently. You might consider either Simonis tournament blue or Simonis gold as two excellent options if you're looking for a brighter alternative, but still want a very good color to play on.
