Starting a pool tour?

Hello everybody,

Been wondering lately how would one go about starting a state traveling pool tour? Seems there aren't to many of these in Texas and when I lived in Florida there was quite a few like the KFCues Tour, Curtis Kelley, Seminole etc. Would be great to have something like this is Texas that hit up all the major cities. How would one go about doing this and I guess the hardest part to figure out for me is getting sponsorships for such a tour? Which companies are the easiest to work with and are interested in such ventures and getting their name out there more? Of course then there is the whole streaming issue I'm not technical proficient there. Any ideas suggestions shared experiences would be welcome.

Maybe Calired will read this thread,he is the go to guy here for questions as yours,who knows just maybe u 2 guys could start something here together,he will have all the answers for you if he fells like sharing today(dont worry he always shares with all of us here at az)so good luck with your great idea!

The only tour right now that I know of that plays in the Midwest is the Midwest 9 ball tour, with Danny and Evelyn Dysert running it. They play Iowa, Missouri ?, Kansas, and Oklahoma, maybe Illinois (not sure).

Texas is big enough to support a tour. I don't know whether Evelyn would be interested in extending their tour down into Texas or not. Might be too far to travel.

It takes a lot of work to start a tour. You have to contract and book several rooms in different cities, and then run the tournaments in each one.
The rooms would need to put up money to add to the purse, plus you would need to get paid for running the tournament.

I might know a little bit about "running a tour"!
There are a couple of tours in Texas that are very successful. If you are sure you would like to go broke/crazy just pm me. The pm is the easy part.

Randy is very right! It ain't what it is cracked up to be.
The industry is in such a state that it really isn't worth it to the players or promoters!

You would probably want to contact all the good players around the area first. See if there is enough tournament players around.

The DCT here in Arizona contacts the pool halls/bars where the tournament is to be run. They get them to add $1,000 to the tournament money. .........This has to be done waaaay in advance of any tour stops. Get at least 8 or so stops, set up per year.

If you get the added money thrown in from all the establishments, the players will usually show up.

Figure out a point system for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on down the line. So....you not only win money, you get points for each tour stop you play in.

Lastly, don't plan on making any profit!!! If you don't want to do it for "love of the game", don't do it.

Streaming would be an added bonus for players to be seen on computers live. But, if you can't stream it, no biggie.

The question is not as ridiculous as you might think.
i ran a Tour in Texas for 11 years and loved most of it. There are down sides to everything. That is just life.
Finding the sponsor you can rely on and trust is critical!!
