State of the AzB forums

Because the b/s wouldn't be in my way, thus saving me time. Time wasted by sorting through troublemakers' posts reduces the value of "free" sites.

Everything has costs and benefits. $30 is cheap compared to the time it takes to claw through some 3rd grader's spoiled threads.

How about this?: Each post cost you 25 cents. That might slow down some of the crap.

How about this?: Each pro gets $x for every post s/he makes.

Start your own website and let me know how it goes. Maybe you're on to something...and maybe you're not. Since it's YOUR idea, then you should be the one profiting from it.

Remember, IDEAS are a dime a dozen. The cemetaries are filled with millions of ideas. The only way for me to profit from it is to implement it and market it to a seccessful level. Not for me.

But AZ is comprehensive enough to somehow charge money, imho.

How about this?: To get advice form a pro, Mike could set it up so you could get, say, fifteen minutes, privately, one-on-one with a chosen pro for, say, $50. The pro could get half, AZ gets half. The pro would do it here, instead of on his/her own, because AZ has the prospective clients, and Mike would do it for the money. We could all benefit as Mike could post the affair further down the road.

Just thinking outloud.

Mike, I've got three posts that have been "rated". One of them says I'm rated "even". The only options are "approve" or "disapprove" or something to that effect. How did I end up with an even?

Where do you see rated posts?

(sorry!) :D

Oh, I see.... I thought you were talking about it being technically difficult.

I disagree with you. The value players get from this site is higher than that from print magazines, imho. I forget what BD cost me each year ($30?) but I'd pay as much to come here as I do for that wonderful rag.

I don't think 80% would leave, but the troublemakers would tend to avoid the place and that is good for reducing the time spent looking for good info. And those that wouldn't pay aren't really very good prospects for the advertisers here now anyway, I would suspect.

Would you pay $30 a year to be here?

Jeff Livingston

One way that I have seen a forum run effectively is with a relatively cheap "lifetime" membership. Of course, if you get banned your lifetime there is over unless you want to re-register and pay again.

It basically discourages trolls from creating throw-away accounts just to stir up crap. I think that everybody who posts here could come up with $5 for a lifetime membership, but it would be a very special troll who would pay that money over and over again. It also saves the trouble of having to try to ban by IP address when Mike can just delete the account and be done with it.

I have put thought in the past towards doing something on a pay basis. (When your day job closes the doors, you think about all sorts of things) I decided it just wouldn't work. At least making the site itself 'pay' wouldn't work. If I was able to offer something in addition to what I offer now and make that additional content available only to members, then that might work.

One benefit to having as many irons in the fire as I mentioned earlier is that it pays the bills. I am not in a position where I have to make money in that way from AzB.

I help Admin another site..., Not a Pool site. :) But we do, have a Donation button. Which really helps. We get enough donations from our members every month to pay for our Internet and server maint.

I don't believe a Pay for membership would work on here. It sure wouldn't help with the weed out the bad memebers. But if you did, I'd have to join up. I like it here.

what about fines??? :) :p :D

HAHA...people don't even pay fines when it comes to a local jurisdiction, city, or state when they know it's possible to get locked up eventually for not paying. Who would possibly pay an internet fine voluntarily?

Hey...F*#k YOU (That'll be $25) F*#k YOU, I'm not paying.... (That'll be $50) Then listen one more time...F*#K YOU (That'll be.......

you mean you're actually supposed to pay for speeding tickets? :)

You are, unless you're willing to schedule a day in court and go through the proceedings. The best thing to do to get off is to tell the judge..Hey, F*#K YOU!

You Know Marissa, when that Cop pulls you over and asks that dumb question.

Do you have any idea why I pulled you over?

Then we say, "Why of course..., I was doing 110 in 45 zone."

Click on "User CP" on the top left tool bar. If anyone has rated any of your posts, they'll be listed there. If it's blank, then no one has rated any of them.

I answered that (frequently asked) question with a meek "Speeding?" *guilty smile*

Then I name drop, "I'm usually a better driver. You can ask Bleep Bleep"
"Sergeant Bleep?" he'll ask.
"Yes, sir" *cocky smile*
"How do you know Bleep?"
"He's like my dad." *sweet smile*
"Well... I'll let you off with a warning, but Bleep's going to hear about this."
"Yes, sir" *sheepish smile*

The key to this is name-dropping before he goes back to his patrol car. Name has been bleeped to protect my own ass.

Works for driving with a suspended license, driving while intoxicated, and failure to stop at red lights and stop signs. (KIDDING!)
