Stats for the IPT...Suggestions?

Hi Colin. Hope you have a blast in Orlando. Here are a couple of stats that would be useful to keep track...

*Number of unforced errors (just plain missed shots, intentional safeties or two-way shots do not count)
*Average number of innings of a rack (for a given match)
*Median number of innings (for a given match)
*Max number of innings (for a given match)

Basically I want to find out how long a rack would take if the rack isn't a break and runout. Have fun!

hmm...sounds tricky (lotsa work;))...I'll see what I can do.

They will be collecting break and runs as part of the official scoring system, so there will be good stats on that available after the tourney, but it won't mean a lot without knowing how often a ball is made off the break.

I find that hard to believe. Do you mean 42-43% break and run, or break and win? The break is HUGE, IMO. Peace, John.

I asked him the same thing, and he said "no, break and win." This is Chip Klein I'm talking about here too, he's no slacker on the table.

I still would rather have the break over a ball spot. If I can run out to the last two consisitently, there should be no reason I can't run the last two as well.

Although my showing in the swanee memorial in 2003 didn't really show that considering I lost 9-6 in the first match and only missed nineballs. Yes, I ran out to the nine in every single rack I played and choked on the nine for nine of them . Pretty sad, I don't think I'll ever let myself get over that. In fact, if I remember correctly, my opponent only made the nine nineballs, a two, and a five. The two and the five were in separate racks too and the five was luck kick in after a miss.

I'm sorry Jaden, I gotta laugh with ya on that one, you missed 9 9balls in a match? 10 ball is the game for you buddy. I guess after the 3rd or 4th 9 ball missed, the pockets probably shrunk down to BB size, huh? Isn't it funny how we all remember those days where absolutely nothing goes right? I was in the twilight zone one day during a match and I had ball in hand on the 1 and the 2-9 combo was set up at the other end of the table but I had to study the shot as to how I was going to get there. After getting it all lined up, I placed the CB down and fired at the 2-9, FORGETTING about the 1 ball. Here's the kicker, I missed the combo and hung the 9 in the corner!!!!:D Oh well, I can't remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday but I remember that shot back in 1991. Peace, John.

Actually I missed twelve nineballs.... I missed one nineball when he was on the hill three times after he continued to miss it also.

I laugh now, but I wasn't laughing then. That was my first opportunity to play some high class players and get some notoriety for it and I didn't even get past a B player. My fiance at the time who's my wife now was there watching, and she said that from then on she wouldn't come watch me play because she thought that her being there was throwing me off.

That reminds me of my mom coming to watch me play at Hollywood Billiards with my girlfriend at the time. I was up 7-0, race to 11, against a guy they call Goose in Florida. Somehow, I managed to lose 11 games in a row from there, missing about 6 nine balls along the way. Then, I gotta play Jimmy Mataya and the line is that I don't 10. I showed them, I won the 10th game and that's it! 11-1, Jimmy. Anyway, my mom thought it was her bad luck and vowed to never watch me play again. (R.I.P. Mom, watch me play every match from now on). Peace, John.
