Steinway Billiards Closing

Just heard Steinway is closing.

Anybody have details?

Covid has really screwed things, especially in NYC.

Yes, heard developers bought out the rest of the block. PC Richards and parking lot are part of the deal as well.
New City had to close it doors, and look for a new location for same reason.

COVID screw all the NYC pool halls, when the Governor decided to keep them closed while letting gyms, bowling alleys and movie theaters open. Took a lawsuit to force Governor Cumom's hand to re-open. Ones that re-open are likely paying current and back rent.

Hoping the date of the opening post had something to do with this "news".

FYI, this was sent to me by a Steinway employee after I sent them this thread:

If you can reply directly from us. We haven’t been offered anything yet nor have we been approached by developers. As far as we know, we still have a 5 year lease left. In addition after speaking to the property owner and a few others on our block, our location is not included in these plans and the property has not been sold to the developers. So we at least have a year left before they start making moves or offers

That's great to hear.

Steinway has been one of the shining examples in the New York City pool scene for years. They have hosted many tournaments over the years, including the Dragon 14.1 events, the Ginky Memorial and they were the host room for most of Darren Appleton's World Pool Series. They also had a very popular weekly amateur tournament.

Steinway will be missed but not forgotten.

Steinway is an example to other owners how they can improve their room, and elevate the game. In addition to the world class tournaments, events, and Earl Strickland as house pro, they were the host location for a reality show.

Robles said they were closing on the World 10 Ball stream. You'd think he'd know.

I'd still want to give consideration to the date of the opening post....April 1?
