Steinway Billiards Closing

i used to go there and play with george. he liked playing with the stars but all they did was run balls for a half hour before he got to shoot.
it worked out well. i made a friend and got a stick i still have.

Who's George?!

he was before your time sonny. and actually his name wasn't george. but for 100 bucks it was and still hits a ton or so.

oh and im talking about the golden q in queens in the 1960's

I lived a few blocks away, and Steinway was a ghost town until Masters closed maybe a decade ago. Then they were handed the baton and became the best action room in queens and probably all of NYC. Quite a transformation, I miss the place. Used to see Earl jogging around the block, it was surreal! I hope the rumors are just that.

Update
I stopped at Steinway. The plans put out by the developers isn't yet approved. I was wrong thinking this was a done deal.

Steinway is planning to have the Ginky Memorial. They're still working on the details. I offered to help that tournament. If you want to call Steinway, call to find out how to secure your spot for the Ginky Memorial.

If people want to show their support for Steinway and the neighborhood, sign the online petition
It wouldn't make sense they would announce this, unless the land purchases were already in placed. In the picture from the article, Steinway is the distinctive green awning in the third block, next to PC Richards.

If Steinway hasn't been formally approached, this gives them a big heads up and advantage when it comes time to negotiate.

Owners of leased property businesses that do significant cash business have very little to stand on when a property owner decides to break a lease. Yes, you can fight for lost business compensation- that would be based on your prior tax returns, so whatever you reported as a business to the IRS is all that you can claim as a future loss against a landlord buying you out.

they cant evict you if you have a valid lease. all they can do is offer to buy you out.

They do it all the time in NYC & other high rent cities. If you know the right people, they will side with you even when the law says otherwise. I don't condone it but I live in reality.

Evicting commercial tenants can be a bit easier than residential tenants in NYC. Very difficult to evict a tenant from an apartment in NYC, even before Covid, and basically impossible since Covid. NYC Tenants Court is a joke and leans so far against landlords that it should tip over. I'm not talking specifically about the Steinway situation as I don't know what I don't know. Hope they can stay; it is a great place.

you are confusing evicting someone who has no lease, or has broken their lease, or the lease term has ended.

with a current lease the landlord cannot evict you. and has to go to court to try to do it.

But i have seen cities declare Eminent Domain to get rid of 2000 poor people for a rich person's project like this.

that is a cities right to some extent. but they have to pay appraised price for the property.

it has nothing to do with a lease from the owner trying to cancel it.
although many times a lease can be canceled if a property goes in to foreclosure.

You are confusing how underhanded deals can be in NYC. I have seen businesses get screwed even with having a lease. It is all on who you know
