What a pool room.
From the moment you walk in you feel a great vibe. The bar is right there with a great look to it, you see a dessert case filled with amazing goodies, people eating what looked and smelled like great food, beautiful and FRIENDLY wait staff.
Above the bar backlit photos of players.
Then you pan to the left and you see a gorgeous 10ft Gold Crown I in a walled off area. From here a sea of 9ft tables spreads out like a flower and all in action. The room is jumping and full of life. Leagues, action, casual players. TV's placed all around the room but not intrusive.
This is a room I could get used to really easily and have no problem spending a good amount of money in.
I had a great time watching Earl beat Shane, 25/24 with it coming down to an 8 ball missed by the thinnest of margins after one of the absolute toughest shots nailed by Shane. Earl did all the antics he is known for and Shane just smiled and kept playing. For my money Shane is one of the best in the world for being willing to fade Earl's tantrums and still perform at a high level. I am not sure if Earl could play mum pool and whether he would play better but the fact that he plays WORLD CLASS with a sporting goods store worth of gear on and obvious demons in his head is amazing to me. Sure it's rough on whoever he is playing but if that person can fade it then it's the kind of training that pays huge dividends when playing anyone else anywhere else.
Tony Robles recommended the Tiramisu when I had my heart set on the Apple pie. I have capitalized both because they deserve it. I took a bite of Tony's Tiramisu and there was no question what I had to do, I ordered both. Heaven, it should be illegal to have food this good in a pool room.
And the people in the room were all awesome. The NYC crowd is professional, polite and knowledgeable. They don't take crap but they know their stuff. Good people.
Anyway I wish I could have spent more time but it was already 1am and I had to get my Spanish friend back to the motel in Jersey so he could catch some sleep and prepare for his flight.
I look forward to being able to go back. Kudos to the owner Manny for building an outstanding room. Will update with pics later.
