Steinway

Basically my idea but my county in New York state is giving me problems. My plan would be at least 10 9 foot tables, 5 inch pockets and at least 4-6 bar tables. I've got plenty of regional tours in the area who would love to have a room with open arms. Vending machines for me aswell and an area for eSports.

Again, sucks that my county thinks all pool halls are problem makers.
It seems NYS has gone out of their way to make it harder for pool halls to operate. During NYS COVID lockdown, poolhalls were the last allowed to re-open. In the meanwhile, they still have to pay rent, utilities, and other running expenses.

In Nanuet, The Spot is about to close. They're now doing this GoFundMe.

yep some states made it real tough on businesses. and those same states will continue that practice.

if the spot wants donations maybe they also need promotions to get the local populace to help them out by spending money in their establishment.
all beggars end up on the streets. you got to pull up yourself and find a way to increase your wealth on your own.

My friend opened his first pool room in 2005 in a rented space - he learned his lesson and closed that one a few years ago. Bought two buildings and built them out for his next two rooms (a third in the works now) - total cost about $1.5M each, borrowed from the SBA. He's making good money at both new locations, even after paying ~$15K/mo (total) on the two loans.

His biz model is upscale pool with food and drink for bangers. Seems to be plenty of 'em around...

If you buy a building, best way by far.

Which is something I just don't understand , it would be a safe environment for people of all ages to come and play pool without any alcohol served .
Of course a security system with cameras would be in place it would be a safe place for kids to spend time after school learning hand eye coordination in a drug free zone .

Granted that's a tough bill to fill in this day and age even here in sparsely populated Montana but its got to start somewhere .

Yup, I'm very well aware of the problem The Spot is facing and it's very sad as Lenore and her staff have ran one of the better halls in the area for a long while now. Alas, new York state for whatever reason had it out for pool halls during the pandemic and that jackass coumo never could give an answer as to why gyms were allowed to be opened yet pool halls were too high a liability to open. And hochul isn't any better at giving answers either.

pool time in this day and age isnt enough for a business to make it. they must have beer and great food to bring in spenders. along with a pay music system and some kind of entertainment or gambling machines.

and above all a dedicated owner who works full time there and is a great business person and very sociable with people.
if they were good at all that it isnt likely they would run a pool room in the first place.

Hard truth, at the end.

Without alcohol... a lot of young kids??? Who's going to pay the rent?
Not trying to be smart with you, but that's the question.

rusty,,,, good intentions but where you are at you dont have the population to support it. why even in missoula they cant keep a good one alive.
the u in missoula manages or did to have a decent room open for all.

you might contact u of m western in town to see if you could set up something as a director of some sorts. good luck.

The initial idea that I posted is in place in Billings Mt at Brother's Billiards where you buy a membership then pay a monthly fee it's based on the honor system .
No they don't serve alcohol but you can bring in your own same with food , they do have a vending machine for soft drinks .
Yes I live near a small town where like so many other places it's nearly impossible to find help for any business , so normally I'd totally agree with you on food and drinks a liquor license in Montana is expensive just like anywhere else .

Missoula had a Corner Pocket Billiards near malfunction junction where they held the Garden City Open it drew a lot of players back in the day they were owned by George Frank many other towns in Montana also had a Corner Pocket also now they're just a memory .
We may have a influx of people moving into this area so I don't know if there will be 5,000 people moving here but if they do thing's will change .

Tax Holidays would be a huge advantage for the future. It should be used in cases of emergency.

Pool has to save itself in the future. Who is on the steering committee for disaster forecasting in the billiard industry?
