I would like to share my experience buying a cue from Steve.
Background:
I first contacted Steve last Nov, and was told I can expect a cue around mid of this year. After a ton of email exchanged, it finally arrived last week. A slight delay of about a month or 2 due to unforeseen moving of his house, shop and family emergency, but totally understandable and email replies are usually prompt so communication was never lost. I changed my design and specs a few times, but Steve was always accommodating and professional. I requested photos during construction, and Steve obliged although it took a while, and the photos can look better. Finally the cue arrived last week and I was exhilarated.
Visual Inspection:
The cue was packed very well with utmost care. Finishing on the shafts was slick and on butt was crystal-clear. I noticed how cleanly cut the parts were and tightly jointed, which are important virtues to producing a solid hit. The ivory was sick, ferrules perfect, abalone surreal, ebony jet black and not forgetting a totally wicked glistering stacked lizard belly handle. Also, shafts were heavy (lakewood) and specs were all nailed accurately, with the exception of the balance point which was a little more than I would have liked, although I got used to it soon.
Performance:
The cue hits very solid and stiff as expected, which was what I wanted. Stroking the cue ball, feedback was crisp and sharp, and I can feel that energy vibrating from the tip to my hand very purely, with little noise or distortion, thanks to the tight constuction. Due to the energy efficiency, a little effort done with the right stroke magnifies the cue ball movement. The ivory ferrules provide more stability on impact and feel a bit harder, although squirt is also slightly higher. The MasonH micarta ferrules are a bit spongier and produces a livelier hit with more spin, although it will be a bit more hard to stun the cue ball. The lizard wrap feels luxurious, especially with the special Carnuba liquid wax he used on it.
Overall:
It was a great experience working with Steve. His customer service is excellent and cue very solid hitting and Steve if you are reading this I would like to say again "Thank You" and keep up the good work. Lastly, please enjoy the picture collage.
Sincerely,
ABC
