stiffest and most solid cue that you've hit with???

hmmm

Gotta agree with the Schuler cue, with an American Shaft. It's stiff, and has a huge amount of spine toward the joint. Folks ask about it when I shoot with it.... It will not let you draw the ball unless you have an actual stroke. No free Muecci juice in this puppy.

With that said, my Burton Spain shaft is pretty stiff, and still straight after 33 years. I'm not really sure why, cause the taper is no where near as "obvious" as the Schuler, so I'm not even sure why it is so stiff. There is just no wiggle in the thing.....Mabye Joel Hercek will explain it to me !!!

A guy on my pool team shoots with a SW, and though stiffer than most, not nearly as stiff as the above two.... Of course, I"m not sure if SW has a shaft option, and thus he does not have the most stiff shaft on his cue ?? Nice cue though !!!!

And Alex Brick, another teammate shoots with a Brick, and she is pretty stiff and solid hitting. Never even heard of Brick until this guy starting shooting with me last year..., but very stiff and solid hitting cue. More so than the SW, IMHO....

Half joint (LBM fake ivory) 3/8 x 10 Taper starts at ferrule and goes up from there.
Hits very stiff But still has feel.
Plan to get the shaft turned down to soften it a bit.

My Darrin Hill. Not only the stiffest I've ever hit with (and I hit with the MasonH mentioned somewhere in this thread), but deflects less than a 314-2:

Stiffest hit but solid response would be, Bob Thompson

cue with special taper and wood to wood but special zebrawood joint and ferrule combo.

Second would be late 1970's to early 1980's Josswest and Some of the Joss(east) with pro-taper and stainless joints.

that my 2 1/2 cents

It's rare for a cue to be stiff and provide feel and lots of feedback.

I would rank other cues I've owned or played with for a significant time as follows. From memory so don't be too hard on me.

I used to play with a guy who owned some very nice cues and he'd let me use whatever I wanted. I wish I had the balls to buy a Gus.

Lost my job back at the end of May. Ex-boss fought my unenjoyment, so no $$$ coming in. Was very short of the mortgage as a result. Still battling with unenjoyment, and still no work. A soldier back from Iraq begged me for the Allers, and paid a good price for it too. The Tucker was an easy sell, and brought a good price. It helped save the house and property. I got to keep a cue, and I figured that I might lose a little on the Josey, so I kept it. It was all a very difficult decision at a very tough time in my life. Being a 52 yo female in a depressed job market state isn't helping.

No worries...once I can get working again, I have buy-back option on the Tucker. It's in very good hands. And since Paul is local to me, and a friend, I can always get another cue from him.

Lisa

Lisa, Sorry to hear of your tough time. I went through something similar
a while back. Had to sell a lot of tools AND a '96 Dennis Searing Hoppe cue. I am recovering now and have replaced most of the tools, however,
the Searing now resides in Germany and I will probably never see it again,(no buy- back option). But, I'm still here and doin okay now. So Lisa, keep the faith and I truly hope all works out the best for you. Steve

SW Not!

I've owned three Southwest Cues. Sure they are stiffer than average, but there are many stiffer hitting cues.

These are the stiffest hitting cues I have owned.
It's hard to believe there are stiffer cues than the Varner.
It was way stiffer than I would think anybody would want to play with.
It was so much stiffer than the other stiff cues on my list that I am sure there is room for some cues in between the Varner and the Blue Grass cues on my list

Nick Varner, custom, not the low priced production cues.
It felt like a telephone pole with Le Pro tip. It was freakishly stiff. Way to stiff for my liking.

Blue Grass Bocote Hustler, very stiff and I loved it. Great feedback for such a stiff cue. I suppose the other 9 or 10 Blue Grass cues would be next in order.

Pat Diveney ebony butterfly with 3/8x11 G10 pin with Lakewood shaft.
Sweet cue. I liked it almost as much as the Blue Grass Cues. Very similar feel and playability.

Dale Perry cues. I owned two of them. Stiff but not unusually stiff.
Not as much feel and pliability as the Blue Grass or the Diveney.
Not bad cues, just not the cues for me. They both felt very similar.

The secrete to stiff hitting butts, IMO

Hi,

You are correct, Hills Fs Cues are very stiff indeed. This morning, Darrin and I did an experiment at my shop. We put one of his FS Cues between centers and put pressure in the middle of the cue to watch for butt deflection. His FS Joinery showed very little flex movement with finger pressure pushing down.

We took one of my full cored cues with a 3/4" maple dowel core and did the same thing. Very stiff but the FS is cue was stiffer.

When we put a few A-Joint style cues to the test the flex was a big deflection factor just with finger pressure. Don't get me wrong, this flex factor is a feature of a cue that many players are comfortable with and I am not saying better either way, just different. If you are looking for stiff, this is the info you need to understand.

One of my Omega DPKs was then put to the test did not flex like it had and A Joint and was very stiff. Omega and some old timers had a very large phenolic A Joint in there cues and they understood this factor.

JMO,

Rick

Here is an A Joint from an Omega DPK. With this Joint the flex of this A Joint cue feels closet to a FS or Full Cored unit. JMO

what is the stiffest and the most solid cue that you've played/hit with or owned??? pics would also be great if you have it...

it doesn't have to be the best playing cue since most of us has a varied preference when it come to hit and playability...

So I'll start it...

To date...so far with all cues that I have tried I would have to say it's my Gina...

...and here she is...

To date....One very old Dog $hiiit brown Paul Huebler. Something about that friggin thing was just magical! And one or two of the Joe Bakers that I have owned over the years....JMO.
