Stiffest Low Deflection Shafts

Curious which give the stiffest feel of the very low deflection shafts available.
Thanks

I think that may be what is referred to as an 'oxymoron', but I could be wrong.

I've only used the Predator 314 (original), and the OB-1. Between the two, the Predator is by far the stiffer shaft in my opinion.

On the custom cue side, I find that Ed Prewitt's new North American taper on his shafts have a VERY nice and stiff hit, but has the low deflection characteristics similar to the Predator 314-2 shaft. Keep in mind, tho, I had my Prewitt shafts taken down to 12.75mm.

The hit quality of the Prewitt is, hands-down, superior to the 314 (i.e. stiffer, better feedback and lower vibration), but you can't imagine my delight when I found out about the low-deflection features.

Finally....a cake that I can eat too!

Try a hybrid pro 2 it's low deflection but not as much as 314-2. Try also hybrid alpha stiff but not as stiff as hybrid pro 2 but it has lesser deflection almost the same as 314-2.:)

My custom shaft (made by Ed Young in Chicago) hits very stiff:
- 10mm diameter tip
- shaft hollow 1st 6-8 inches
- tiny ferrule (about 1/4" long)
- very low squirt
- conical taper <- (why it hits stiff)

stiff vs hard

Anything with a euro/ conical taper will be stiff, as PJ stated.
Your tip hardness, ferrule, shaft density and taper will affect the
duration of the compression cycle, as will the joint, wood tone,
weight bolt and bumper.
It's almost like a musical instrument.

The stiffest I have found is Dominiac and they are very reasonably priced and come with a Kumai tip standard.

i will agree with corey and not just because i play with an xshaft. I have a friend who hates LD shafts because you loose the feeling, he tried the xshaft on my schon and loved it.

give the WD700 a try, stiff shaft with very low deflection.

BTW, I'm just curious what advantages do stiff have over whippy shafts?

If you gave Corey D, a really stiff shaft (more-so than the Predator he uses) do you think he'll get more action on the cueball?

I don't know of any performance factor related to shaft stiffness. Power, consistency, spin, squirt... nothing either way. Many players claim performance differences, but I think they're really personal "feel" preferences.

Thanks everyone

Anyone know if this page from Platinum Billiards is accurate?

The results of their tests surprised me when I first saw this. The Tiger X shafts aren't even in the top half.

Do many pros use the conical taper these days? If so, who?
And how conical are we talking?
I recall seeing 3-cushion cues with dramatic conical tapers, but I assume the Euro taper is more gradual.

So telling a cuemaker that you want a custom shaft that has low deflection and stiff characteristics means what usually goes into the shaft?

More conical for stiffness, smaller ferrule for less front end mass?

Thanks

McDermott i-3 is the only one of the very low deflection shafts in that chart with a European taper. Anyone ever hit this shaft?
