What happened to Cebu, Phillipines? I would have went if they held it there

It will not be in Philippines as the World 10-Ball Championship (W10BC) was snap-up by Raya Sports. Raya is concentrating on that instead of WPC '08. In their presscon, they already confirmed that WPC '08 will not be in the Philippines. W10BC will be in the end of Sept '08 to early Oct. '08.
I overheard that WPC '08 will be in Macau. It is under negotiations.

I know the Mosconi Cup is held in the United States and the countries of the European Union, alternating each year.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The existing lot of professional players in the States is dwindling. These brave tournament soldiers continue to roam a wilderness on American soil and fight to survive on a little bone with not much meat on it.
With more and more events being held overseas in Asian Pacific Islander countries, American professional players will be forced to emigrate in an effort to pursue and realize their dream of being a professional pool player. Like the great American buffalo, they are the last of a dying breed and face extinction.

I heard Jakarta, Indonesia from a good source, depends if their association can get the funds.
Yep, Jakarta is kinda horrible as a tourist destination 
Some nice pool halls there though, Afterhour, Hangar, and a good 100 table room (forgot the name).
I think Macau would be a brilliant venue for the WPC... Hold it in a casino, the Wynn, the Sands, the new Lisboa and get the casino to add significant money for the added traffic And close to HK too...

I second that, the ability to run a top notch WPC in a glitzy location that could use the international advertising like Macau is a no brainer. The chances are that you could get a huge sponsership from the Macau tourism sector and alot more advertising and sponership from whatever casino was to hold the event. This money could at least in part be used to add to the prize purse and help this sport gain additional legitimacy as a profession for the best.
The only thing is they had better have been working on something like this already because getting the financial things worked out that Macau would allow takes time and marketing of the event to the various people. Otherwise save it for next year when it can be done right and you don't have to set a precedent of giving the event away and all the publicity that goes with it.
yep, I would like to start making my plans as well. Would have loved it at Cebu but seems it won't happen I can visit only one event and have to choose between 9-ball somewhere and 10-ball in Manila. Manila is great choice no doubt but... there is a but. What's wrong about Jakarta gobrian? And is Macau really nice place to visit?

If you like the bright lights like Vegas, then Macau is the place for you. The action there I heard is heavier than Vegas too!

Indonesia is predominantly Muslim and has it's share of radical fundamentalists who sponsors terrorism. A few years back, Bali, which is a popular destination amongst Westerners was rocked by terrorist attacks that killed and maimed many tourists as well as locals. Jakarta is not an impossible target for these cowards and having an international Pool event would be a very savory target for them. If it's ever held there, I'm pretty sure there'll be plenty of rainchecks.

Bangkok- no problem- many parts of Manila- no problem- Macau- fun, hopping place anxious to become a world-class popular destination.
I might still go if the WPC is in Jakarta, but it's not a certainty by any means. If a big group is heading over to the 10-Ball tourney, I might go to that instead- I won't be going to both.
Too bad our resorts and casinos will only be ready by 2010. Couple with the F1 racing Singapore is going to be a real happening place. Maybe we will get to host it in 2010!
Hopefully all the casinos in the region will be fighting for more attention and would consider pool tournaments a viable opportunity. I dun really encourage pool and gambling to mix but for now i think the game really needs some attention before it sinks much further.

I would love to visit the Philippines again (and again), but the only thing which I don't like about 10-ball worlds is the current rules (making it a call game). I can imagine what it would look like and wouldn't enjoy watching it for sure.

I wouldn't worry about Indonesia, the majority of the tourism has returned to Bali. Tons of Australians the last time I was there....
Jakarta but not 100%, was in Macau in January for 1 night, not a bad place. I arrived from long haul flight about 10pm, walked out a bar at 9am following morning, back in hotel at 10am, checked out 2 hours later to fly to Bangkok!
