Most
stolen cues have a slim to none chance of ever getting back to the rightful
owner. Most get shipped out of the area to another area (selling or whatever), but in a few cases, sometimes if someone local stole it, it
might wind up in a Pawn shop.
Be careful with your equipment.
Do not leave in the car, keep it with you. (if you do though, put it in the trunk).
Keep within eyesight, or have a friend watch your equipment, even while
going to the bathroom (especially in out of town rooms).
I was playing in a local tournament in one of the rooms I frequent, and
a guy picked my cue up from my cueholder, and wandered off with it.
He gave the explanation that he thought it was a house cue ... yeah, right? Sometimes they try that, and then if noone comes for it, they leave with it.
And they are fast. Same room, another tournaement, went to shoot as it was my turn, and someone stole my silver lighter off the top of my cigarettes on the table beside the Pool table. My opponent and a friend got his break/jump cue stolen that night as well.
