Nice to hear about Jerry. A super nice guy who was long one of the better players around Los Angeles. I wondered what happened to him. Please tell him hello for me. Thanks

Jay we recently had a long conversation about you all positive things I will definitely tell him.

He was one of the better horse handicappers that I ever knew. Ask him to tell you about the Breeder's Cup ticket we were unable to buy. If we could have raised $2,000 we would have won nearly $2,000,000! Jerry had all nine winners on his ticket! :D

Brutal! He still bets on Horses. He called me and said, "Lee, I'm betting on a horse called, 'Lookin' at Lee!'"

So it is very important to me that I am pulling my weight in this arrangement. The first time we went to a tourney with a $75 break pot, Jerry got drawn for the first pot and was running out nicely until he got stuck on the seven and had to bank it. Barely missed but he was not happy.

I got drawn for the last one and I crushed the rack and got good shape. Jerry is verbally loving it and getting more and more excited every shot rooting me on. I stayed in line the whole time and it was such a rush when I made the nine, knowing how much he wanted me to redeem him.

We split my $75 pot and then we split his $70 first place money.

As we watched another guy trying to run out a pot he noticed the table was tied up and the two was near the nine. Jerry told me, "Now if this was me, I would cinch the one ball then ride the F*** out of that nine!" The guy went for the runout and as he was getting out of line Jerry was like, "Yeah I still like riding the f*** out of that nine." He laughs a lot especially when he drinks and he can shoot like a boss when he drinks which is a lot and often. Wish I could do that.

So the next week on our way to the tourney he reminds me that if the runout looks tough on those pro-cut Diamonds, just ride the f*** out of that nine. My name gets called and I make a ball and the table is runnable. The one ball is about a foot from the nine in the middle of the table and the cue ball is about 4 feet away. Jerry says, "It's go time."

I got the hint and caromed into the nine hard. It did not go towards the corner pocket that I was aiming for and I even looked away from the table for a second, dejected until I hear Jerry start cheering. The nine caromed off a ball and approached the side pocket at a very sharp angle. It was a total cliffhanger and finally fell into the side.

It's so rare to give someone a running high five in pool but I did and it was a great adrenaline rush that I never get playing solo.

Partnering in tourneys is the way to go if you get bored easily. So much better to be sweating your partner's matches.

Anyway I hope to share more stories as we plan on going to bigger tourneys...

Jerry must really like you if he hasn't asked you to gamble. Time mellows all. Jerry was a semi fixture at Hard Times in Bellflower and always seemed to cash. A friend of mine who was no slouch celebrated the 1st time he beat Jerry in the Sunday tournament.

Jerry and I had the same conversation several times a month. Jerry would ask me if I wanted to play some cheap sets. I always answered "Jerry we both know the only person the sets will be cheap for is you."

Have wondered about him many times and am glad to hear he is up there rather than in the desert and still playing. He will do a lot for your game as he has both the knowledge and the experience to bring your game up.

Thanks for the post and tell him "Hello" from So. Calif. The guys at Hard Times will be glad to hear that he is well and still playing.

We finally gambled last night. He invited me to his grandson's softball game. I brought some vodka and juice and we bet a buck on whether or not a girl would get a hit or an out. 50% of the players were girls. He was destroying me and he confirmed Jay's story about the millions they would have won on the breeder's cup.

He finally came to my house and we played for a few bucks. Turns out I can out drink him! We both blew a .21 on my breathalyzer and I got him. (Several better players have given up playing me on my home table)

Jerry is definitely a much better player than I am but to give you an idea I beat the nine ball ghost 5-2 on my home table earlier today.
