Well, maybe not exactly but since this sub forum is where I hang out, I thought you guys might not mind if I posted this here.
At our Illinois Billiards Club, where Jim Parker has been running straight pool leagues for something like 36 years, we are having a three cushion tournament this weekend with some pretty good players including George Ashby and Hugo Patino.
A local cue maker, Noel Mendoza, has donated a cue, proceeds to go to the prize fund. For those of you who don’t know, Noel worked with Ray Schuler for many years and is carrying on the Schuler tradition.
http://www.mendozacues.com/index.html. Noel Mendoza makes Schuler jointed cues. According to Dennis Dieckmann, he is the only guy around who can make them. I've been using one for the last few months and it has a nice solid hit.
When Ray Schuler was making them, he designed one of his shafts for straight pool-shorter, thicker. I would think more for the old style bump and bunt type of straight pool.
Anyway, raffle tickets are $5 apiece and 3 tickets for $12.
If anyone wants to buy a ticket, they can paypal me the money with paypal fees: $5.46 for one; $12.67 for three and I will fill out your name, address, etc. and enter your name in the raffle. I am going to be helping run the raffle.
The cue comes with a carom shaft but if a pool player wins, Noel will substitute a pool shaft.
