i have a few questions about straight pool….

1. I make the ball I wanted to make and another ball by accident. how does that score

2. I make an unintentional ball. does it spot?

3. after each rack is over. and all the balls are reracked. do I have to shoot at the ball left over from the other rack. or can i shoot at any ball….

1. you scored 2 points
2. ball gets reracked at footspot, or the closest possible to it from the footrail
3. you can shoot at whatever ball you want

The official rules for 14.1 are fairly short. You can find them here: http://www.wpa-pool.com/web/the_rules_of_play
I think you will find a few surprises there.

I was quite surprised to learn that when a player's score is between 40 and 50 points he may not wear pants.

Also, the "quack like a duck when you pocket a prime-numbered ball" is hard to enforce; I constantly have to remind my opponent that 2 is a prime number.

did i write a mistake?

What you wrote was probably close enough to answer the original poster's questions, but there is a small error in #2. If the spotted object ball is to be spotted close to another object ball, it should be moved towards the foot spot until it is touching (frozen to) the interfering object ball. This small detail is very, very important at times in one pocket. However, if the interfering ball is the cue ball, the spotted ball must not be frozen to the cue ball but rather placed as close as possible without touching.

I think in general when answering rules questions, it is important to point the questioner to the official, easily available, on-line rules so they have a chance to see the details of the situation they are wondering about and also discover other rules that they had not imagined, such as the prime-number rule mentioned above. As for the pants rule, as of the 2008 revision "going commando style" is sufficient, as krupa would have seen if he had reviewed the rules before answering.

your right, i should have posted the link to the rules. hoped it would be "close enough" easier to explain on a table

have a nice weekend all
