His skills and achievments are not in question, His sportsmanship & manners are (or lack thereof ) I hope someone in the IPT has the balls to do what should have done long ago and that is remove him from the IPT, take his card and let him find his unexceptable behaviour some where else,Earl Strickland is "NOT" larger than the sport itself "NO ONE IS "

The IPT should make Strickland a star. His unpredictable behavior and after-match comments will eventually fill spectator seats.

Strickland is Strickland, big deal. There are worse primadonnas in other sports and they continue to play. It's about the sport and ability, not personalities.

I agree. Don't ban him, turn him loose. Pool needs characters not suit and ties! He's really a nice guy off the table I heard, he is just very competetive and takes the sport seriously hardcore. I am a nobody and I was standing in the hallway once at the Derby and he was next to me and out of no where he just starts a conversation with me telling me jokes and laughing. Hes pretty cool I think.

It's actually scary how quickly he changes the second he walks out of the arena. I spoke with him after a loss once and he was really calm and collected. I'm sure had I tried to talk to him while the match was going on he would have bit my head off but it seems he is just that competitive, for better or worse.

I agree. Strickland did better than all but 3 Americans. There are only 3 U.S. guys in the final 18!! That's the real disgrace-- not Earl's behavior. If Van denBerg was dissing Earl, then Earl was right to brow beat him. I'm sick of our players acting like politically correct, wussy little choirboys. That whole Milquetoast attitude has resulted in our players becoming second-class in the international field. We used to dominate. Now we're a bunch of butt-kissers.

Doc

Earl is a nice guy off the table. Earl is the guy that everyone loves to hate and his matches always get crowded because everyone is dying to see Earl play and mostly to see him have a break down. I love to watch him play because he is a great player but I don't like to see him give up such as he did at the Open.

In reading what happened during the IPT on AZB's home page, I hope that Earl doesn't lose his IPT card.

Earl Strickland engendered controversy during his second-round, televised match with Nick Van den Berg of Holland. Strickland made several comments to Van den Berg's family members who were in the audience, and things escalated from there. In an interview later, Van den Berg called Strickland "a disgrace to the sport," while Strickland was unrepentant, saying, "I know I'm a terrible person, but you still have to show me some kind of respect." IPT Tour Director Deno Andrews is investigating the situation. Behavior that is deemed unsportsmanlike conduct can result in a suspension or loss of a Tour Card.

Oh-oh, Deno is investigating it. Deno seems like a nice enough guy, but he also seems a little "prissy", bad influence of 3-cushion political correctness. Sports get rough around the edges, it is the nature of good honest competition. His getting upset often, only shows his heart. You cannot compete at the highest level without being at that edge, some people, like Earl, sometimes slip past the edge that's all.
BTW, I must have misread something , I thought this was an incident with Varner.

Well put Doc...................

Yeah, when you put Nick V, and meen Vandenberg, you need to clarify....because the only Nick V. most will think of is the legendary Nick Varner.........and I guarantee Earl wouldn't do anything to disrespect that guy. Everyone on the pro tour has a huge amount of respect for the "little grinder".

earl = happy gilmoore of pool

Its a fact, Earl draws the crowds and people love to watch him.

I remember in the early 90s at the continental inn in lexington kentucky he threw a ball out into the crowd.

People love to hate earl, he draws in spectators and thats good for business.

I might not like some of the things he does, but it should take a lot more than a few snide comments to get him kicked off the tour of a sport that can use all the help it can get right now

Removing Earl from the IPT would be a grave error in judgment. In most of these situations, Earl is not the only person guilty of being a disgrace to the sport, so are some of the "fans". Messing with Earl during an important match and expecting him not to react is sort of like intentionally pissing off a rattlesnake and expecting it not to bite you. Banning Earl would makes no sense if KT wants to sell a television program that has great pool, tension, excitement and drama. Earl puts people in the seats, plain and simple. The players are there to play a match. Fans, cornermen, family members, should not interfere with that and if they do, get rid of them immediately, not the player.

WHAAAAAT...are you kidding me ...Earl threw a ball in to the crowd..okay..are you just joking or are you serious...if that is the case he is lucky someone hasnt kicked his azzzzzzzz before now

If it were to be a WPBA event Steve Tipton will eject all of them out.:cool:

Vagabond

I was thinking the same exact thing when I was writing that. lol.. Steve Tipton is the flash photography/ringtone policeman of the WPBA - amongst other things.

Hocky=assualt and battery=1 minute penalty

Nascar=fender benders at 125mph=rubbing and that's OK

Baseball=bean balls=warnings and if continued=ejection by both pitchers and managers=but usually ends in a bench clearing brawl with suspensions

Basketball=elbow blows=1 foul (and you can do this 5 more times before you are ejected) allowed to happen 20+ times in a single game.

Football=it's OK to hit the 'Suday' out of someone, just don't do it to the Quaterback

Golf=just hit the ball straight (this is a non-contact sport)

Pocket Billiards= talking to spectators during a match= see Deno

I agree, let him play. In some sports they administer a fine, maybe they could do that but kicking him off the tour is too extreme. I remember watching John McEnroe playing tennis once and he was yelling at somebody up in the pressbox who was typing on a typewriter.
