Strickland "Is an Embrassment"

Good points, L26. I was with you until the last 2 sentences. However, "political correctness" is exactly the cause of U.S. society's ills. "PC" is a political euphemism for collectivism. "Politically Cleansed" would be a more accurate term. This socio-fascism has metastasized and has incrementally infected our society and our legal code. In the late '60's the Hippie, peace/love behavior spawned the marxist/feminist/homosexual "blame America" movement, which now permeates just about every facet of life. It's unnatural. Our leaders are significantly emasculated. People feel powerless. Men are afraid of offending anyone. Women are confused. Most believe government will save them. Consequently people have become lazy. Their standards are shot. This is a perfect enironment for I.V. TV use, and apathy. I don't care a whit specifically about Earl or his antics. My hope is that people stand back and look at the forrest, rather than at a few trees.

OOO KAY, how do you really feel?

[2)conservative capitalist American = Bush suporter

No it doesn't. Many big-time and small-time conservatives are relinquishing their support for Bush....Buckley, Buchanan, and others have many disagreements with Bush, a NeoConservative, aka socialist/imperialist. There is a big difference...a hugh difference!

Just keeping things in context, here.;)

Cuedoctor, try integrating these facts without bias and with some room for change, as each of us makes many mistakes in our worldview. It is better to allow for, and accept, mistakes, because if you don't you're being dishonest with your thinking and that leads away from happiness.

There is a pool player in town that is paranoid like that, constantly telling people around the pool hall to "be quiet" because they are sharking him. It's not like they are doing it on purpose, they are just doing what people in the pool hall do.......have fun or at least try to. He thinks everyone is out to get him and everything bugs him, he is a great player but ostracizes himself due to his behavior.

The one common denominator with him and Earl? They both smoke a prodigious amount of weed. Drugs affect everyone differently, but from personal experience this may be a possible cause for the similar behavior.

Although in this match...when Efren and Ralph were on the hill...Ralph comes up dry on the break and about 4-5 Philipino guys start cheering and clapping very loud because Ralph didn't make a ball. To me, that didn't show much class or respect for Ralph...

How can u say that they were clapping because Ralph had a dry break? May be they are clapping for arrival of their hero coming to the table just like before the President of USA enters US congress ,a guy comes before him and says loudly here he,here he,here he and after that everybody gets up and claps.Efren is their President equivalent.

strickland is the man

:D we are warriors in the heat of the moment.these spectators know he is sensitive to sharking tactics but they still try to push buttons.I am glad Earl won the match so people will just leave him alone.ther are extraverts and introverts.Earl is an introvert. He is there to play (not be treated poorly);)

I hear ya....think about what would have happened had they cheered like that if it was Earl playing Efren and Earl came up dry on the break...pool balls, sticks, and who knows what would have been flying...LOL.

I have the Earl Strickland- Ralf Souqet match on tape, and for the life of me I can't see what was so wrong about what he did. Sure he sulked, sure stopped caring about the match. But when I watched the match after reading the billion page thread about how much of a$$ he was in that match, all I saw was a guy who sulked in his chair because things weren't going well for him, a guy who clapped for Souqet's great shots and a guy who clapped for Souqet's win at the end.
I guess your opponent sitting in the following positions wouldn't distract you? These are pictures from the match with Souquet. Also, on numberous occassions, Earl complained to people in the crowd about Ralf playing too slow. The fact was, Ralf wasn't playing too slow. Earl just wasn't playing well and he was trying to shark Ralf.

Did you just get back from hunting for BIG FOOT or something? This discussion ended yesterday. But I want to thank you for looking up all these fine athletes who nobody has ever heard of and posting them here.I am surprized that you havent listed any record holders from curling?:D

Nope, just jumped in to point out how totally silly your comments about no athletes in Europe in Asia. I'd suggest you speak only for yourself, many have heard of these worlds-best athletes. Ignorance is not something to be proud of.

No it wouldn't, and it obviously didn't distract Souqet. I would be thinking "my opponent seems to have no confidence now, finish him off." And I am sure that is what Ralf was thinking too.

We all know Earl would want tournaments to have a 10 or 15 second shot clock, Ronnie O'Sullivan feels the same way. There are a few times in the match that Ralf dragged it along, it was not painfully slow, but slower than Earl would want.

How many people on this forum have offered this advice about slow players "don't watch them!". That is what Earl did with Ralf.

Poor sportsmanship should result in a fine of somekind!

Fine him ,suspend him, but do not permanently revoke his card THIS TIME.
Should he misbehave again suspend him again or revoke his card.
Earl needs help. He needs counseling and he needs to be medicated. If he is already on medication he needs more of it, or possibly different medication.
ruk

Earl Strickland should be suspended from the IPT. They are trying to create a professional environment and he takes that away completely. No player in any other sport is allowed to act like that without penalty.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this altercation from the tournament yet...but I think it was on Wednesday, Earl was playing Gary Abood...

Very similar to the story that Breakup mentioned that he witnessed...it was Earl that started throwing out questions to viewers in the stands...

Well during this match, Earl was chatting back and forth with a spectator....nothing bad at all, they were just talking friendly about things happening in the match...then Earl makes a shot, almost scratches....and then says, "...I got lucky there....no, I really did get lucky..." Then he looks at the spectator and says to him something like, "...Well, that's the one time that I got lucky..." and the spectator responds with something like, "...That's actually the second time...and he holds up two fingers. It seemed like the guy was sincere and that he just wanted to clarify that point with Earl...

Well of course, Earl goes ballistic....and starts hollering at the guy that he has a lot of nerve to talk to him like that... Then he tells him that he can get him thrown right out of the place... Eventually, a bunch of refs come over and calm Earl down....and then the refs are stern with the spectator too and tell him not to keep talking.

In my opinion...it is Earl looking for things to blow-up about...and he is the one instigating most of it... Sure people talk during matches...and maybe that could be a legitimate thing to get mad at....but the match on Saturday between Efren and Ralph S...there were a lot of people watching the match...many people talking...they were breaking down the set of the TV match next to them...banging things, etc....and neither of them said a thing...they just stayed focused and kept playing...

Although in this match...when Efren and Ralph were on the hill...Ralph comes up dry on the break and about 4-5 Philipino guys start cheering and clapping very loud because Ralph didn't make a ball. To me, that didn't show much class or respect for Ralph... Ralph looked ticked and looked sternly over at the guys...but that was it. He didn't carry-on or make a scene...

I just think that Earl is out to instigate trouble...and as strange as it might sound, from what I saw....I think that he wants to find something to get upset about so he can go off...maybe that's the way he gets rid of his nervous energy or something... I saw a couple other things that Earl said and did while at the tournament...and they definitely don't paint a good picture of the guy...at least to me...

Yup that was it. Your description is much better than mine.

In this match Earl was acting like a complete ass and it was very disruptive; but you are right, Ralph did not let it affect him. I might add that if Earl were paying attention, he might have analyzed two racks a lot better. In two instances Ralph pushed out, Earl hurriedly declined to shoot without giving much thought, and in both instances Ralph made the shot and ran out the racks. Knowing Earl is as good a shotmaker as anyone, had he put a little effort out, and perhaps watched the match and accepted the pushout, he would have had those two games. In conclusion, if you act like an ass and don't pay attention, it will bite you in the ass.
