Strickland/Reyes Match

I've watch some of the replay of the match & I have to say that the commentating stinks.
 
Earl won 8 ball 2 nights ago - 17 to 11. He played amazingly. Efren wasn't handing him much at all.

Earl won 9 ball last night 21 - 17. Play was pretty good, but a little spotty at times.

I found it interesting that the breaker in 8 ball seemed to realize a much bigger advantage in 8 ball than 9 ball. (it's alternate break BTW)

If the 8 ball isn't "take what you make" it's runout city for them. Johnnyt

I wonder what pro stats would be - take what you make vs open table. If I'd guess off the top of my head, I'd say the breaker would win @ 10 to 15% less racks. Where's our resident statistician AtLarge? :grin-square:
 
I used to ask why don't the pros play more 8 ball since it's a game played by so many. Watching that made me realize why. It's just not very good lol it's just to easy for them. Breaking out clusters isn't a problem and it didn't seem like there were many on that 10 ft table. In 9 ball if they have an opening shot after the break they run out. 8 ball they have multiple options lol it just to easy for the pros I guess

Depending on how hard the table is for breaks. Rack your own, winner breaks and table average to get balls on the break, playing choice with top pros is a B&R game. Breaker probably wins at least 60%. Johnnyt
 
anyway I can watch 8 ball match replay? not many pro 8ball matches to watch on youtube, really want to see this one
 
What is the money like in this event? Is Efren getting cash for appearing or is it winner take all?
 
8 Ball played by the pros should be on a bar table. More clusters to deal with and tighter patterns have to be played. They still will run out a lot, but it is way more educational and fun to watch.
 
Thanks for all the updates. I guess I missed a great match up. I'm 80 and still shooting the best pool of my life (not great but not too bad either). I'm certain Earl will be playing great at 80 (and that goes as well for Efren). The pool gods are on their side.
