I don't know why so many people think Sigel was the best 9-ball player ever. Earl Strickland is easily the greatest 9-ball player who ever lived.

You're completely wrong but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Earl was ONE OF the greatest 9-ball players.

IMHO, Luther Lassiter would have owned Earl. And I'd love to hear some stories about how Earl's done against Buddy Hall.

Sigel...Earl...Sigel...Earl...Sigel....Earl....

They're both great, and they both think they're the best. But, I have heard Earl say more than once these two quotes....

1. "He NEVER beats me when I'm plaing my game!"

2. Sigel was the "most difficult player to beat."

....Whatever that means?

???????????? mike hasn't been doing anything since he RETIRED ages ago. is this a comparison of earl now and sigel NOW? if so,,,then you guyz win,,,,earl is better than mike the now aged old fart.

Two things....
1. Louie Roberts did NOT win the U.S. Open 9 Ball Championships back to back, Nick Varner did in 1989-1990. Roberts won it in 1979 only.
2. An earlier thread said that Earl Strickland and Archer had records that "were pretty close." Well, Archer has 2 US Open 9 ball titles, Earl has 5.
Archer is a 3 time World 9 ball Champion and Strickland is a 6 time World Champ. Earl also has a World 8 ball Championship in his credentials.

In my opinion, the all time greatest TOURNAMENT 9 ball players are 1. Strickland 2. Lassiter 3. Sigel. (Probably in any order!)

In my opinion, the all time greatest ALL AROUND players are 1. Efren Reyes
2. Nick Varner (World Championships in 14.1, 9 ball, 8 ball, 1 Pocket and Banks) *Reyes does not have World Titles in 14.1 or Bank Pool 3. Allen Hopkins.

I love reading threads such as these and I am very interested in other posters opinions of their top 3 in both catagories.

This is so fun debating and talking about the greats of our time honored sport!

Hey man you are not sexy and why are you talking in white letters so nobody can read what is your problem

I hate to say it but he just doesn't have the records to be there. He for some reason has become a larger then life player after his playing career then he was when he was playing. He was a very good all around player but not great in the sense of the word that would put him at the top of a list with some of those names.

Actually Archer only has one U.S. Open 9-ball
title (1999).

I am not so sure about that. I would pay huge to see a Color of MOney 3 of this, race to 120. Mike the aged old has-been Sigel against Earl the self destructive lunatic Strickland. It would be a battle of the ages.

My money would be on Sigel in a race this long because he is only going to get better as the match goes on and 120 is far too long for Strickland to stay grounded these days.

That is preposterous. Sigel is out of stroke and it would take a long time for him to get any type of gear, and by that time Earl would have an insurmountable lead. You are just an Earl hater, and everyone on this site knows you are always biased in favor of Sigel. Well guess what, Sigel is #3 in the best 9ball players of all time, right behind Earl and Efren.
