I heard today that Earl will be playing Efren in January at Steinway Billiards. 8,9, 10 ball matches.

I was told it will be ppv. I just heard this today. I have not heard this officially.

I'm going to go against the grain on here and say I think Earl will prevail.

I don't think Efren has the same "intensity" in the game that Earl still has. This ISN'T to say that Earl won't go on full tilt and throw his cue like a javelin, but if he keeps it together I think his firepower is a notch above Efren's at this stage of his playing career.

No matter who wins, this match should prove to be top notch.

:)

I would have to give this one to Earl. All three sets. Don't think Efren has the Firepower & break that Earl has at this stage. Especially on a 10'.

Also Efren's devastating kicking game will be nullified on the 10' .

Just my opinion.

As Efren is my all time favorite player, it pains me to say I do think Earl is the favorite. But can you elaborate on why you think his kicking game will be nullified?

Efren was/is a pretty sporty 3C player, and that's played on a 5x10.

Since the Color of Money, has Earl and Efren ever matched up again for three straight days (televised or streamed)?

I agree that Efren play pretty good 3C.

But........

1. The kick angles aren't exactly the same going from 9' to 10'

2. The speed that he is use to kicking to get the results he wants are altered on the 10'

Also, when playing regular 3C the balls are much heavier, so playing pool & 3C is different on the 10'.

BUT HEY!!! who knows.....He is the magician!.

Let see

"When pool is put in the right perspective, then I think you'll see it get up to the levels of golf and tennis," Earl said. "I think television is the key ingredient. People are seeing that billiards is not just an activity, it is a sport in which skills can be perfected.

"I think pool will one day be a big TV game. It's a great individual game. We need to find some sponsors from the corporate community like the other sports."

I think Efren will still be a force. He's not playing in as many tournaments and he may not be as worn out from over play. His knowledge of the game and shot selections shouldn't have changed. If his speed control is still good, then I think he'd be more of the favorite. He's obviously the better kicker of the two, and more creative shot maker in my opinion. Also, his mental toughness is better than Earl's. Earl has more tendency to implode. I don't ever recall Efren's wheels coming off the cart. If the crowd is pro-Efren or anti-Earl, then that might also come into play. Yeah he's getting up there in terms of age, but would you play him even-up? One more thing to think about is that he just came off the loss from the Mosconi. Earl can't be feeling fired up from that one.

All in all, I'd think Efren 2 out of 3. Not sure which but I'd bet on 9b and 10b. and give Earl the 8b. No offense to Earl or his fans. As a shooter, he's one of the toughest out there, and I'm glad their having this match-up. Its good for pool.
