Stroke hitch

I am working to fix my stroke and turn my arm into a consistent ball pocketing machine. Depending on certain shots my cue forearm hits the rail as I follow through. If anyone including the gentlemen have helped me in the past could let me know of a theory of what I am doing wrong. I know most of the time you can not determine the problem without looking at my stroke. Humor me please....

Are you by chance dropping your elbow? That would lower the cue, perhaps enough to allow the cue forearm to hit the rail as you finish your stroke. Of course Video would help, particularly one where we can see your rear hand and arm from the side.

Rufus...This is exactly what the OP is doing. I've seen hundreds of cues, with nicks and dings in the forearm finish, from dropping the elbow. You NEVER see that with a pro who drops their elbow. That's because their timing is superb. Normal players just don't have that kind of timing. When it's all said and done, dropping the elbow is a choice, not a necessity...and the OP would do well to figure out how to fix it now.

If you are hitting the forearm of the cue on the rail once in a while, its is from dropping your arm. Next time that shot comes up where you normally do it, make an effort to remember to keep your elbow straight, and it should help to start correcting it.
