if any of you maestros there can pass along some quality tips and drills to help fine tune the stroke and position play it would be appreciated. Tom Rossman just told me the other night you can learn something from anyone, so i am listening guys. i would think folks like Williebetmore, BlackJack, Pooltchr, and others could be a big help to me here.

i am talking about things such as Williebetmore's Deska Drills that i read about, and practiced some tonight. or such things as stroking through a bottle. or the drawing a line on the table to check alignment (i use tape) tip in the other thread about laying the cue on the table.

i've got to get this straightened out, and i am bound and determined i am going to do so.

I have a book called Lessons in 9 Ball. It's $30.00 and it contains many drills. There is also Black Belt Billiards by Steve Campana. Great book, highly recommended.

o mi do this drill all the time and i think it'll help with the other shot you were having trouble with.

http://cuetable.com/P/index.html

i started off doing this shot 10 times in a row. if you miss once start over (back in the day i'd do it for hours) it's a simple stop shot but it shoutld get that waver out of your stroke. this shot or versions of this shot come up more often than you think. as much as i do this shot i still dogged it playing a guy i used to know when i was on the hill. now days i don't leave until i can make it 20 times in a row

i forgot to mention that the object ball should be 1 chalk off the rail and the cueball 2 chalks off. don't baby it just stop it. after it gets easier try to draw it back about 1 diamond. i think it's the need for consistancy that makes this helpful. hope it helps

try this one i think it'll work now

just pocket the ball and stop the cueball. doing it consistantly can get challenging if you're not aligned right if nothing else hopefully it'll show you that you're doing something consistantly wrong and you'll have a place to start

If you're shooting a stop shot, why not line it up straight-in? (or is that supposed to be straight-in?)

No, it's fine. So does the 1 and 2 chalk set up get you a perfectly straight-in shot? I'll have to try that.

I think the point is to set up a straight in shot with the object ball an inch or so off the rail. Poolplayer said 1 and 2 chalks, I dont think the point of the drill hinges on those exact measurements.

Right, I was wondering if that was a good way to get it perfectly straight-in without using a straightedge or something. Otherwise sometimes it's hard to set it up just right. I know it doesn't really have to be so precise, but it'd be nice so you could really tell if your stop shot was on the money.

After your lesson from Scott, do the 7 Mother Drills exactly how he outlines them for at least a month... don't do other drills. Listen on how to train and practice... don't deviate.

You will see an improvement if you do what your told. If you don't do what your told, you will see the exact same results you currently are getting.
