stupid ghost question

I bet myself 3 to 1 on the wire that I couldn't drink a 6 pack tonight. I lost.

so for ghost you just break 6 balls, take ball in hand, and run out? what if you dont have a shot?, can you play safe or do you just try a shot and if you miss you re rack them? sorry ive never heard of this game before

Fighting a back problem and running 5 short racks on a wet tight table?

All I can say is, Good Job!

You have to try to run out in one turn. That is the game. If you fail to run out, "the Ghost" wins that game.

thanks, and I was using a cue I have only used a couple times, everything was stacked against me, thats why i made the first post and started this thread, i didnt know if it was good or not(i know a champion could do it easily-but i'm not a champion), i have never tried it before and wanted some insight, it didnt seem like much when i did it, i didnt try again, i had to go, it was the first time in 8 or9 days I could play, my back has been that bad, it was fair last night, i have been in bed/floor so much the hair on my outer calf muscles has wore off(they are hairy on the inside it looks funny)-they looked like I Shaved them, I have to get this fixed, i have been down just over 2 years, I know for a fact i'll play better than ever soon as I can play 5-6 days a week. and I'm 40, i wont be able to beat Shane, Alex, Morro etc. but what ever it is has finally woke up in me after all these years. my mind is quite, distractions dont distract me(like the wet table-it was a disaster if I hit the pocket facing the ball would stay up most of the time. I can just play now. mentally i'm more stable and focused. Everything has just came together and I havent been able to play 3 days in a row since I started back, 2 a few times. Its a totally different game now, it just seems easy, before it seemed hard no matter how much I played.

I'm not bragging hell there are tons of players everywhere that can drill me easily, I'm just making an observation-how after a long layoff of playing seriously a person can come back a different player, could be me or anyone, its an interesting topic. I guess I have matured between the ears, I have awalys carried myself in a mature mannor but I remember all the thoughts running through my mind when I would play-now they are gone I just play. its a mental game too and for what ever reason my mind came right, i sound like i just got out of the nut house, which isnt true, i'm the same guy i have awalys been. things are comming together on the pool table for reasons i cant explain-but i'll take it. :)

Jay I slept on it all night lets play 6-4 and I get 3-1 on the $$$$. With your new found riches you should take that game(assuming he wins the WSOP). Why am I trying to make a game with my friend who I wound never gamble with? If he wind the $10 mil in the WSOP i'm gonna have to break my own rule about "never gamble with friends" and find a way to rob him. ;) .i NEVER gamble with friends for more than what could add up to $40 and the winner buys dinner so its a wash.

Good work, bro! Now move up at least one ball to the seven. Good luck on your continued recovery, and leave that man, MR. Bucktooth, alone! I don't care how good you move, if you're playing the six-ball ghost you have no business in the box with that dude.

I told you it was good. So what do you want, a medal!

I like the way you match up. I'm betting on you if you ever make a game.

I will add a cookie to the prize fund. It only had one bite taken out of it!

Seriously- ghost-type games are crucial to the development of a rotation skills. They are great because of the ease involved in setting the game to your level...start with 3 or 4 balls, once you can do that 6/ 10 times, add another ball and keep progressing likewise. I usually play 12b on my home table, but the pockets there are quite large (and nobody sees or cares!).

every thing is negotable with tooth-i got the book on him, his son was at my house in Vegas yesterday to show it to his wife and kids-i'm not in the dark on this one and i do appericate your advice.

and i know running 5 short racks isnt gonna get me there heads-up with him or any solid player, my condition is so bad i can only play once in a while, betting on me right now is like betting on a 3 legged horse. it was nice to see I got out when i needed to i only go out of line once on the run, i was awalys on the right side of the ball etc. But that aint 1P and starting with 6 balls BIH I should get out 8 or 9/10 times as long as the balls dont get funny after the break. If I can add 2 balls to it, 8 total and get out like that then we'll have a game,

what i'm looking foward to is how i'm going to play once I can play, I wont he callong Shane VB for a game thats for sure, but in my own little corner of the earth it feels good to see imporvment, i like to see anyone play better, now its my turn, i have seen people make huge improvements in a short peiod of time in the past, not C players but good players that just jump up a level for no reason. hell I have everything stacked against me now and i'm moving up. Funny how that works, its an interesting topic. I have seen guys and myself make improvements because of total dedication and being in as much actio as possible-that explains that, but to get better for no apperaant reason is interesting-i'm not bragging just observing in the first person perspective.

my goal is to be an A player everyday I walk into the pool room. And to be considered a "Player" among my peers.

When I get there, its all gravy after that, the respect of my peers-weather they like me or not. Most people like me I'm a nice guy and treat people with respect and am just nice is easier to like someone than to hate them.

Fatboy-

If you want to do your back a big favor, look for a table that is set high. I've got mine at 33", and it is much easier on the back than the typical 29" tables. It may not be regulation, but I don't care.

i thought about that, if it dosent get fixed soon i'm going to raise the table a bit- my GC4 the snooker tables are a bit taller and being on 8 legs its a big deal to raise and lower it,

thanks for the thought, i'm gonna have Ernesto do my GC 4 soon as i get back from Germany and move it out of my ex-girls house(that I own-that she got knocked up in 4 months ago) something is wrong here, i should have a headache not a backache. and have him raise it a bit, i have played on taller tables before, takes me a little time to adjust but not much, what i dont like is tables that are to low

A piece of cake, only 8,000 players to go. :)

When I saw the title to this thread, "Stupid Ghost Question", I thought you might have a query about a stupid ghost. I thought maybe you ran into one that keeps on losing after he gives up the 3 ball and wants to keep on playing. Now that would be a stupid ghost!

Ok, I've been celebrating a bit too much. I promise to behave.

i never even heard of this game until a few weeks ago, is running 5 in a row(6 ball racks) on a wet 4.5 inch pocket wet 9' table good?, the pockets wouldnt take a ball for nothing, man the humidity and the air handling system in the pool room is terrible, geeze those pockets were tough tonigh, is 5 in a row with out missing good? I havent ever tried this before or even heard of it til recently, I only played 40 minutes sa I wasnt warmed up and playing with an unfamiliar cue. or is 10 the bench mark for a good player, whats the cut off from B to A- player, it was super easy, hell unless the balls come up funny I pretty sure I could run 10 on a dry table with a familiar cue. I was cold too. Or is 5 normal for C players, I know ZERO about this game, or what I should be able to accomplish playing at my level.
It takes an 856 accustat rating to play even with the 6-ball ghost, 900 to play even with the 9-ball ghost. Not just a hell of a lot of difference. On a tight wet table it is a good practice game. If you think it's very easy for you try to get 10 ahead a few days in a row and see if you still think it's easy. If it is, then you need to move up or get a tighter table. I've run 6-straight at 12 ball ghost on 4" pockets but that doesn't mean I'm going to gamble on it, since I've never gotten 10-ahead, even though I could beat 10-ball 10 ahead easily (as in every day) at the time.

I got 7-ahead of the 6-ball ghost today playing with both hands on my 4" pockets before I lost my mind. I'm trying to get over some injuries and can't play long enough to do much better right now since my stance is different most every day. See if you can get to 10 ahead before I do.

If you can't do it every day, it's not easy for you.

Another way to look at it is this. You must shoot a 900 to break even at 9-ball ghost. You could still shoot a 900 and break even with the 6-ball ghost by running 6 one rack and 3 the next and then missing. So even shooting a 900 doesn't necessarily get you ahead, it takes 12 out of 13 to get ahead one game. That's a 923 accustats, same as playing even with the 12-ball ghost (sort of, lol, please no hate mail, I know it's not really the same thing, but you still have to pocket the balls and get on the next ball for a decent shot, and the balls are not necessarily closer to the pockets). How many b or c players are going really going to steadily make the 6 in a row on a tight wet table after they hang up a few or get a few tie-ups after the break?

Some posters make it out to be a lot easier than it can be. Ten ball ghost is easy too if you never miss, it can easily be beaten without breaking out balls at all if you run out all the open tables, but most people simply can't do that.

wow thats great info, whats that make me a solid B player if I can maintain that level of play?, i think i might be able to play today my back seems ok now,i wanted to yesterday but couldnt-too much pain. i have to go to the Dr etc. hopefully I can play tonight i'll report what happens good or bad. thanks for the info.

if i want to go up to 7 balls, do i break the 6 and spot the 7th ball on the spot? i'll try the 10 ahead first before i go to 7 balls, i'll also count how many rack it takes to get 10 ahead.
