Like anyone else I have googled this before and found some suggestions, all of which cover the same general steps, but the differences are enough to make me curious what a real cuemaker might suggest.

So, I have an OB2 shaft that sees play at least once a day for a short while I try to clean it semi regularly, based on how much I'm playing or sometimes just because if it looks better it makes me feel better and thus more confident.

Looking through the suggested steps on the OB website they say to use start with a Q wiz to remove the coarse dirt/chalk/oils and then to use a magic eraser saturated with denatured alcohol.

On to the smooth side of the Q wiz to clean up the grain a bit.

Afterwards they reccommend using a lacquer based sanding sealer since the denatured alcohol will raise the grain of the wood a light sanding afterwards and to finish they say a carnauba wax.

My main question is how similar is this procedure to the way a professional would clean and condition a shaft, and if this is how you do it, is there a certain brand/type of sanding sealer that you would reccommend?

OB's method is the one I use except for carnauba wax.
My 2 cents,

a different idea

i really think the best, keep it clean as you play, don't wait until its blue to try to refinish it. i know that is not what you are asking, but i have been playing for 65 plus years, and i don't get my shafts stained blue. i keep my hands clean as i play, and keep a damp paper towel handy to wipe the shaft down every few sets. i keep the chalk on the tip, not on my hands.
just a thought.

I'm in a similar situation, I purchased an OB-1+ shaft recently and would also like to know the best method to clean the shaft. I reside in Canada and learned that we do not carry denatured alcohol here (not a single store sells it and online is too expensive). The majority of the techniques and methods I read involve using this but I'm looking into alternatives. I dropped by my local drug store and the rubbing alcohol that they carry are 95% ethanol alcohol, would this be okay? I've read that I should strictly stick with ethanol alcohol and not anything like isopropyl alcohol, is that correct?

My current method of cleaning my shaft are as follows:

1. Wipe down shaft with magic eraser (dry)
2. Use Joe Porper's shaft cleaning solution with a paper towel
3. Use green side of Q-Wiz, then brown side of Q-Wiz
4. Burnish shaft with leather
5. Apply Q-Wax to shaft with paper towel, let it dry for a bit, then wipe off excess with paper towel

Please let me know if my method is okay or I should adjust my methods. I'm still currently new to shaft cleaning so any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

If your method works for you its ok...if you achieve what you want a clean shaft then its good. You may or may not want to experiment with different cleaning solutions and or waxes .....if it ain't broke why fix it? Everyone is different thats why there is chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

clean with a shaft cleaning to remove most chalk and dirt then roll sand then sraight with 220-600 grit sand paper then seal sand smooth with 1000-1500 grit then burnish and wax then scuff tip if there are any large dents of gouges you can fill with ca after the 220 grit and will be like new .........
