Anyone have experience with this and have ideas on how to extract a rail bolt from Connolly rail? A customer brought his rails to me for new cushions and apparently whoever put the table together 5 years ago cross threaded it so he hacked the head of the bolt off to get the rail off the table. The stud just spins in the insert so it's obviously shreaded because the insert is not moving. Here are a couple of pics of the style of insert with one of the stud (former bolt) in place:

Thanks for any help!!

one of the problems to this type of rail. can't replace the insert without getting the subrail off. If its a side rail you might be able to cut it flush and go without a bolt. I know the connelly's have 4 bolts per rail, even on the 7-footers. You will probably still hear vibrations if its on the end rail. or, hole saw out the insert and router out space for a 1/4" nut plate, get the thick nut plates from imperial.

Cut it off flush. Then on the drill press drill the remaining bolt out getting progressively bigger. Once that is out of the way install a surface nut plate.

Thank you gentlemen and Rob for the phone call. I'll let you know what works but great suggestions. It is a side rail and the bolt is closest to a corner pocket so, if worse came to worse, it could go without one but I will get it with a little determination and of course your help! Thanks again!
