I've just made a research and I've read almost everything concerning shaft sealers and conditionners. In humid conditions, what would you advise to use on the shafts?

I tried it all, carnuba wax, sanding sealer, pledge furniture polish, teflon powder spray. The best I've used: slipstic cleaner-conditionner. But even though, it doesn't last that much long in humid days. Should I get the Slipstic conditionner?

During the summer, should I use any sealer? If so, which one (paste wax? wax? shellac? linseed or tung oil?)

P.S.: Bare wood isn't what I'm looking for.

they all work

to a point. Very high humidity (90+%) is tough to deal with. A glove works best, and will provide a consistent feel in all weather conditions. But you will still want a nice sealed, sanded, burnished, then waxed shaft under that glove. And the shaft work is done on a lathe for the nicest results.
 
Another gem of knowledge is washing your hands with soap in the coldest possible water. This makes your pores shrink so your hands don't sweat as much. This is what I do right before a league match and my hands stay dry and the cue strokes nice and smooth for the whole match. If I play for a while though I have to wash them again. I hope this works for you as well as it does for me.

Added to the slip stic would be a piece of 2500 in your case, works great. I've been using the same 1 by 3 inch piece for a long, long time.

Before you go out to shoot apply some antipersperant to your bridge hand everywhere that comes in contact with the cue. Wash off the excess with mild soap and cold water. Your hand will stay dryer longer and consequently your stroke stays smooth. As an added bonus you don't have to wear the glove

My buddy sells the liquid glove works well.Squirt allitle in your bridge fingers let dry for 1 min (it drys white),doesnt come off.

I do this too. I have a fetish about keeping my hands clean and my chaulk in my right pocket. When my hands get to much chaulk on them from reaching into my pockets its time to wash them.

If you go to a wood turning store that sells pen turning stuff you can buy 3"x 4" padded sand paper kit. It comes in a kit that starts out with 1500 grit all the way to 12,000 grit. Yes, 12,000. I think maybe there is 15 pads. one shot up and down the shaft with all pads and you are set. Sometimes I only use the highest 3 grits.
 
1,500-12,000....that sounds like Micromesh. I use it every time I clean my shafts, starting around 4,000 unless I have small dings, then I use the whole range. Takes off very, very minimal wood and leaves the smoothest finish I've ever seen.

NO, if the shaft is burnished properly, don't clean it at all. If you must clean it, have a cue maker or repair person do it. It's worth the few bucks. I don't consider someone who continuously wipes his shaft with a damp towel, a person who actually cares about his shaft. That's just me!

this may sound real funny but i use to use hair spray.just spray ur hand and let dry.i worked for me back then are i just thought it did ,lol. Jeff

Impressively, Hair Spray works real fine!!!!!! :eek: :cool:
That's a nice tip you gave there!

P.S.: I'm going to play tomorrow and thereafter, I'll let you guys know how good it held up.
