according to the web site there is only about 150 entered in the amateur. last year they had record turnout. I know people wait until the last minute but theres usually a lot more then that by this time. What Gives? The economy? people just waiting until the last minute? the new location? I'm personally jacked for the new location!

i would not worry, I am sure the turnout will be massive. They just recently started to get their crap together for this year

I'm sure the show will be fantastic. The venue has changed but not those who run the event. Alan knows what the players and collectors want. He has never disappointed in the past. Expect a first class event.

A bunch of us are heading down for the TAP part of the tournament and we couldn't get any rooms on site. Does the new hotel have more or less rooms than the previous one?

I may sign up for the amateur but the strength of the field is well above my skill. Still will be fun to try though.

Well, my boyfriend and I both went previously, but looks like neither one of us is going this year. He usually plays in the pro event, and we DO NOT like the ref for that. And I haven't seen a women's event advertised, but I did not like the single elimination format that they had before. You played each person best 2 out of 3 races, but it was single elimination. Why not do away with the best 2 out of 3 and make it one decent race and double elimination? Do that, and get a new ref at the pro event, and we would both be there with bells on!

I saw the same numbers on the sign up page but I am not worried. I will be sending my money in this week for the open. Im sure they will hit 1000 again this year.

I think yours is a minority opinion, particularly with respect to the format. It is a VERY well run 1000 player tourney. Double elimination make for a LOT more time and work. I think the amateur tournament is great.

Also, check this out:

Scroll down and you will see the women's event, same as every year.

Thanks! If he were going, I'd probably play anyways, but I still don't like the format :p

There is no hotel on site yet.....

There is NO ONSITE HOTEL at the new venue. It is my understanding that a hotel is being built but will not be finished until 2013 at the earliest. You must find a place nearby to stay......I would recommend looking into Staybridge Suites around there....last year we stayed there and it was spacious, cheap and they offer free breakfasts and dinners.

I moved to Houston, TX from Pittsburgh, PA in August and will not be attending this year.......I've been to every one of them.....so I'm a little sad about not going this year.

Hopefully I'll be back next year and hopefully the hotel will be finished.

Good luck........I love the Super Billiards Expo....normally my one big pool trip per year!

No hotels on site this year.
Plans for a future hotel on site to be built in the near future.
Here is a list of the hotels on the SBE page (SBE Hotels List) with the closest being just over 1 mile away (makes it rough for dealers who do not want to leave their cues behind).

Yeah like everyone else said. It will fill. This is the same thing I saw last year. There were about 1-2 hundred people signed up at the begining of febuary and at the begining of march there were 6-7 hundred.

Oh that ref!!!

I think I know what you mean about that ref. He is very arrogant and seems to want to make himself stand out.....to him it's not about the players or the fans....he himself wants to be in the limelight. I don't care much for him either. He's just too cocky for me........and I'm not sure he even knows very much about pool.

Oh and who is your boyfriend??

I'd go in a second if the amateur events were played on 9-foot tables. I'd play in two of them and my wife would play in one.

Personally, I'm not buying plane tickets, renting a hotel room (and maybe car), etc. just to play on 7-footers.

They talk about all this space they have. How much more could it cost to have 9-footers? I'd gladly pay a higher entry fee. That's chicken feed compared to the entire cost of going.

positive & negative about 9 footers

But then all the bar players wouldn't play They would have to have bridges & we would have some harder matches :-)

I know that the Rally in the Valley is a TAP league thing. When I played
TAP, it was always in a bar on a 7 footer. Maybe the open tourneys can
be on 9 footers, but I'm sure that the TAP wont change the size of the
tables they play on. I guess it's easier to keep everything the same.
(Except for the Pro tourney of course)

pleeeaaasseee... you change it to 9 footers and you would lose half your players. No one seems to like 9 foot tables any more and if they did where we live unless your a member of a club you can't find one to play on.
