I was wondering if anyone here could suggest a good hotel.
I can see that the Radisson is connected and obviously the closest, but its also the most expensive.
Is there another hotel thats walking distance to the expo thats a lot cheaper and still decent?

Thanks.

roughly how much would a taxi cab to the convention center be from that Motel 6?

Also, are the tables open to play on late at night like the Derby or do things close down after a certain time? If so, theres no point really staying close to the convention center.

Is that plaze at King of Prussia with Rock Bottom Brewhouse walking distance?

Thanks for the info. just trying to make a decision here.
Cheers

i rent a car from the airport....will cost you alot less....i think 4 days with a medium size car last year cost me around 125bucks....well worth it and you can go to a couple of the halls around town.... and it has been fairly chilly last couple of years you wouldnt want to be walking around a 5 in the morning....save a little cash on were you stay and get a rental car....

and it is around the clock table action from thursday night to sunday mid afternoon....

Expo

Check out Best Western also. The car rental is a good idea. You don't really want to stay in the convention center 24/7. There are some decent restaurants worth driving to and Philly definitely worth getting a cheesesteak if you're so inclined.

thanks for the input. I think were going for a cheaper hotel and car rental!

but damnnn, flights to philly from nor cal are f**king expensive!
Anyone got a drop on airfare sales?

I've stayed off site before but never again. I have a hard enough time walking back to my room. Driving is out of the question.

The place next to Ruth Chris. Can't remember the name. Not far but VF to me is 4 days no wife, no kids and no work. I might partake in a adult beverage or two.

Hahahaha...that's when you ask to rent carpet space. Face up, face down, after a certain point, it doesn't really matter. ;)

Lisa =====>still hopes to make it someday.

We stayed at the Marriot which is only about 2 miles away. They have a free shuttle that goes til about 11. Then cabs are really easy to get (about a $10 cab fare including tip). We only used the shuttle and the cabs when we were drinking which was only one night. The rest of the time we had our rental car that we rented in Pittsburgh. Staying further away was actually better for us but other people may disagree. The Marriot also has access to Bally's gym and pool and it is literally within walking distance of the mall if you so choose to go there.

i've gone to many events and stayed off site, thinking its worth the inconvenience to save a few bucks. trust me, spend the extra money and stay at the scanticon or the radisson.
i stayed in the scanticon in 09 and i must say, its just so easy to ride the elevator down and get off on the floor of the event and walk 30 ft to the entrance.
no worries on finding a clean restroom, because you have one upstairs.
if you drink too much, you dont have to worry about the elevator taking advantange and charging you too much for the trip to the hotel (like a cabby might)
and if you stay up too late, you can get to the room and sleep a little longer before having to rush downstairs for your match.

oh and once you purchase something from one of the vendors (which you should, they help put events like this on for us), you can take it up to the room, rather than having to lug it around all day and then fit it in the cab.

I went last year for the first time and me and my buddy Red stayed in the redroof inn and it was great and a straight shot to the SBE. About 50 bucks a night and there was a bunch of resturants real close and just one that I wish I would never have walked into, we got a real screwing at $85 a plate for a crummy tough steak and mashed potatoes (not even a baked potato) can't remember the name now. But it is a small black building on the opposite side of SBE and a couple of blocks away, I hope they went broke since last year cause they deserve it.--Leonard

Oh yea Suge be sure to buy the VIP seating in the Pro Arena as soon as you get there, the non vip side has the hardest seats in the country.--LOL

good stuff fellas. thanks for all the info so far.

I guess its all personal preference, based on convenience to the venue. Some people don't mind a short commute and would rather be walking distance.

I have to say though, when we went to the Derby and to Vegas we stayed at the Horseshoe and the Riv and it was great to just go downstairs to all the action.

Still trying to make a decision if anyone else has anymore opinions they'd be much appreciated.

I just checked google, and the nearest Red Roof Inn is about 25 miles away from Valley Forge Convention Center. I recall a Red Roof Inn right across the street from the Chesapeake Conference Center, location for the US Open 9-Ball. That was nice and cheap.

You can call Motel 6, and ask for recommendations for local tax cab companies.

There is 24/7 walmart on North Gulph Road, you can stock up on groceries or buy prepared cooked meals.

The Raddisson offers their hotel guests complimentary shuttle bus service to King of Prussia Mall.

Last year, after midnight the tables were free until something like 6 am. The year before, they were charging $10 all night. I don't know what time the convention center closes, or if they throw people out.

The Convention Center is situated over two hotels, the Scanticon and the Raddison. There are a couple of dining choices in both hotel, Blue Grotto, Chumley's Bar, etc. You can check the menus online through the hotel websites. On the lower convention floor you can buy burgers, hotdogs, beers, soda, coffee etc.

Another option is delivery, Chinese, Pizza, etc. You'll need to meet the delivery guy at the front.

There are vending machines for beverages, but due to the sheer volume of attendees, they're always running out and often empty when you're dying of thirst. So if you see one that's just been stocked

A final option, forgo the hotel, stay awake all night to watch the action. Buy daily tickets for the Pro matches, find a empty spot on the bleachers and nap there. Its nice and dark, so as long as you don't snore, I don't think anyone will notice. If someone does catch you napping, then complain that match play was so slow it made you fall asleep. :-)
