Super Expo Review???

Thought it was great venue! Thought most of the vendors were helpful, but some wern't very personable. The crew at P&B Magazine were great! Basil had some cool items for sale. Was great to see Deickman. Got my picture with him, Mary Kenniston, Dan Louie, Chris Hightower, and many others. Always pick up a new idea or method from Joe Blackburn and Steve Lomax, (Great guys) Saw the drill seargent try to give a lesson to Ron Vitello. He didn't know Ron, and Ron didn't let on. Speaking of aiming systems. Sure could have used one in the Mens bathroom. Thought the pro arena needs a little adjustment. Hope all the vendors did well, and everyone had a great time!

I thought the venue was quite good. Very safe area. It was just about a mile off the highway, and had 3 hotels between the highway and location. Harold's of New York was in one, and the food was fantastic. There was a good diner within 2 miles, and several other places over on 1.

As for the event itself, there were more pool tables than last year. I think the vendor count was down a little, but it seemed like most had a little more room.

I thought that the cafe was a nice touch in that the food prices were decent (much cheaper than what you find in say a stadium or something), AND that it had things other than typical "bar" food...wraps, sandwiches, etc. the VENDING machines all around the floor that were only $2 for a full bottle of soda was nice, even though I didn't partake. The Raritan Bakery up front ROCKED. Certainly nothing like that at Valley Forge.

Everyone was friendly, the lighting was good, and the event ran smooth. I believe ALL the tables were open Wednesday night for the early birds, and there was just a $10 charge to get in the door. Ten bux to play on diamonds till your heart was content is not a bad deal AT ALL.

It was the little things that made this event better than last, IMHO.

From a vendor stand point it was much better than last year. Vendor attendance was down from last year, Predator and RT9 not there, Mueller only doing repair no big store set up(done for cost reasons), Fury booth was thinner in inventory. After 8pm there were around 10 or 11 vendors open, not including cue repair. With no hotel attached to center it seems when people lose and leave they don't want to return. We will be attending next year and expanding our booth.

Do you have a website?

No mention of gambling because there was little action at the expo. I heard many went to Sandcastle billiards five minutes away. The expo had mostly $5 and $10 tables.
Food is never great at these places. Harolds was 2 minutes away. Someone said 'small sandwich' was $23. This sandwich feeds 2 normal people or one fatboy. The big sandwich for $50 feeds 10 normal people.
Vendors where good, but some big ones missing. Mueller only there to hand out catalogs. They had nothing to sell. No Predator booth. Phillipi was not there nor Robin Dodson. No APA booth so no Dr. Cue.
I had a good time. I will go back again next year. I have looked forward to and enjoyed the expo for the last 15 years. I watched a lot of the seniors play. Some really good players.
I saw some of the pro early matches, and I watched the semi finals and some of the finals. It would have been nice to see more top women there. Allison was not really challenged.
The men's race to 8 two out of three sets made the matches long.

Kaz,

Boy was I glad I played Super's rather than Seniors. My guess is the field was much stronger than the Open. That Dave Daya guy did it again! He's my hero. Too bad we didn't get to meet. Perhaps next year.

:rotflmao1:

Yeah...the best amatuer player in PA for the past 40 years.

Four out of five years I drew Dave Daya twice and Lombardo twice.

The open drawl was always better for me. Used to get a lot of good bar bangers I could beat.

So this year I only played singles in TAP and I got to play Shayne Morrow.:slap:

I didn't know he was that good until I saw the YouTube videos. If I would of know he was that good, I would of played a little different. TAP is just an amateur league.:help:

Eric,

If you'd have found Harold's, we'd be calling you "Really Fatboy"! $23 for a "small" sandwich seemed just right. Think you would have agreed. Hope to see you in Vegas.

Lyn

Harold's will eventually be THE PLACE to eat for Expo-goers as soon as people learn about it.

Almost everything on their menu is $30-50 / plate--- BUT (STRESS BUT).... it takes like 6 people to even come CLOSE to finishing a single plate. These plates were showing up at tables with (NO JOKE) like 10 pounds of deli meat on it. No matter what you ordered, it showed up in GARGANTUAN proportions.

I haven't been to a deli in a long time and all I wanted was whitefish on a bagel, but the whitefish sandwich was $30 and I didn't have 5 people to help me knock it out, so I settled w/ the french dip--- which was so big we didn't finish it with 5 people (no joke).

I've been going to the SBE for many years. I had the most fun this year by far.

People should get off the nuts of the Valley Forge Convention Center. Honestly, that place was kinda a shithole --- the food staff there stunk the place up with greasy steam, the bathrooms looked like there were from Beirut and the upstairs/downstairs thing sucked.

This location is far, far superior to the VFCC. There are two AWESOME pool rooms within 7 mins (according to my GPS) from this convention center: Sandcastle and Elite Billiards. Elite even had a snooker table --- each room was really awesome. It was cool to see the Accu-Stats arena w/ the 10' Diamond.

If I hear one more person complain about "How the concrete floors hurt their back," I'm gonna throw up. I've had two lower back surgeries (within 60 days of each other) a few years ago on my L5-S1 area and my back didn't hurt anymore than walking around the VFCC's tile floors. There's no way someone can tell me walking on concrete hurts SOOO much more than walking on rock-hard tile floors. It's almost like unless you roll out memory foam across a convention floor, people will find something to complain about.

Any time I stay on my feet ALL day, my back hurts. I can't blame that on the SBE location this year. In fact, I found a crew of women who rented a booth to give back massages. I paid for a 20-minute massage for $20 and it seemed like it lasted forever. I felt totally rejuvenated. In fact, the woman even gave me some BioFreeze to put on my back since she knew I was having lower back pain --- CLASS MOVE since that stuff ain't cheap.

In short, it'd be nice if people posted about how STRONG this expo was considering it was their first year at this location. It's like people forget about the piss-stenched VFCC bathroom's and leaving the VFCC stinking of grease while complaining the concrete is just too tough for them. If walking on concrete is too much for you, consider buying a HoverRound or a scooter from The Scooter Store because you prob need one. I'd hate to hear how those same people do while walking the Strip in Vegas - sheesh.

I thought the mixed drinks at this year's expo were great. I never ate there because I was constantly stuffed at Harold's. The girls up front selling the pastries were super friendly. The vendors were all very helpful this year.

My only suggestion (not complaint) would be to use the extra space near the side entrance to setup tables/chairs so people can get off their feet a little easier and relax away from the action/commotion of playing.

Other than that, I had the most fun this year than I had any other year at previous expos. I usually left at 3am each day and it looked like I was the first to leave - believe it.
