Super Pro Cloth

Not sure about Super Pro but there is one called Pro Am cloth. Its only a few dollars cheaper then Simonnis before the price increase. I have never installed any of them, but I am always replace them with Simmonis, Tour Edition or Granita Cloth.

Spend the extra money on Quality cloth In the long run you get what you pay for.

Tell them you'll try it for free and let them know how you like it. If you have many tables to do they might go for it.

Milliken Super Pro -

Hi there,

Milliken Super Pro is a worsted cloth that is made by a Milliken division, Strachan. (pronounced Strawn)

This company has been making billiard cloth for longer than Simonis and has a great base in Europe. Sterling has been selling it for three years and the rooms that use it love it.

Recently we asked one of the action rooms in Chalrotte to put it on their "action" table. This is the table that is double shimmed and is the preferred table when there is any serious money game in the room. The players were not told that the cloth was changed from Simonis. Not only were there no complaints, the consensus was that it is "the perfect speed". The room owner has returned his bolt of Simonis and is going to recover all 15 tables with Milliken Super Pro.

Super Pro cloth is treated with Milliken's Spill Guard process which means it repels liquids and moisture without slowing down the cloth. Only 100% Merino wool is used in the production of this cloth which is the highest grade of wool available. The cloth is a blend of 70% wool and 30% nylon.

It is currently less expensive than Simonis but that is ONLY because Simonis has raised their prices. When it was introduced it was higher than Simonis because it cost us more then to get it. So for the first two years the cloth did not have much impact against Simonis because the general thought was why switch from a proven brand to an unknown one.

The cloth lasts up to 30% longer than Simonis however. When I say that I mean that it looks good and plays good up to 30% longer. So in the end even if it were slightly more expensive it's a better value. Now we didn't take that 30% claim at face value. We put the cloth up against Simonis at local pool rooms that get a lot of league and casual play. We provided the cloth and monitored the wear and it did in fact hold up longer than Simonis. And in fact most players could not tell which tables had Simonis and which had SuperPro.

So that is your introduction to Milliken SuperPro cloth. It makes it's professional tournament debut at the GenerationPool.com 9-Ball event next week in Charlotte. The company that makes this cloth however has provided the cloth for a lot of the World Snooker Championships in the last 25 years. Not that that means anything for pool cloth, but this company definitely has the experience making cloth that satsifies professional caliber players.

I would like to formally invite all table mechanics to come by and talk to us at the BCA Expo or call us at 704-821-1010. We can tell you all about the cloth and probably work out a sample for those mechanics who are very active.

Thank you for the interest. This ad paid for by Sterling Gaming. :-)

Most can't tell the difference between Simonis and Velocity either. :D

Care to expound on the scientific or technical measurements used to support the 30% longer claim?
Or was this simply using the eyeballoscope.

Good ad btw.

According to Milliken in England, their original claim of 30% longer life came about through field testing with room owners there.

We didn't want to repeat their claim without some sort of testing so we put it on tables around town and measured the wear by measuring the ball marks and divots according to a grid that follows the diamonds on the table. The tables with Simonis on them showed much more wear and tear than did the tables with SuperPro and when the Simonis tables were ready for recovery the SuperPro tables were not. When the SuperPro tables were ready to be recovered they had lasted around 30% longer than the Simonis and so satisfactorily backed up the claim of 30% longer life.

Below we have some questions that we posed to Milliken regarding the SuperPro and their repsonses.

SuperPro is the official cloth of the German Billiard Union. The DBU (Deutsches Billard Union). You all know how meticulous the Germans are. SuperPro asked the folks at the DBU to test their cloth against other top clothes using Simonis 860 as the benchmark cloth. Below are the results of that test. Other than what is reported however I don't the exact parameters of the testing only the results.

1 - Is there any data pertaining to tests for tolerances of extension, elasticity, thickness and abrasion

Yes, we now test every roll produced for elongation / strength, gauge / thickness and pilling. A roll can not be released without the strength test. Since the new cutter has been used in production all rolls are going well past 50,000 rubs on a Martindale abrasion tester with little or no pilling.

2 - Stain resistance - data to show that chemical treatments for stain resistance does not impede the wear or playability of the cloth.

The cloth has been on test now against the Simonis 760 & 860 in a club in the UK. The SpillGuard treatment was not communicated to the players who all rated the cloth above the two competing cloths. The fitters were also asked to report on the feel / handle and there were no negative comments. The wear is unaffected also & the cloth has an equal resistance to bruising / ball burning.

3 - Is there a fiber count or weave specification
Fibre diameter is 25 micron. Weave is 18 harness drafted.

4 - Specifications for the wool used in making the cloth
30% Nylon (3.3 dtex) : 70% Pure new wool (25 micron). The wool is specified to be H8 maximum to reduce yarn hairiness & the yarn is waxed prior to weaving. Yarn elongation is >20%.

5 - What is the weight of the cloth
Minimum weight is 370 g/m2. Max weight 410 g/m2.

If there is any other scientific testing data or product specifications that can be touted in print or online that would be most beneficial as well.

We have some internal test data which backs up the DBU data. Taking Simonis 860 as the benchmark tournament cloth and indexing it as 0 they ranked the Superpro against it giving a positive or negative score. The testing was done by Andy Heuber and some Pro players from the Bundesliga (Professional Level League). This is listed below:
Cutting / ripping: 0
Fitting stretch: 0
Fitting rails: 0
Tensile properties: +1.1
Uniformity of colour: -1.4 (We are looking at ways of improving this)
Durability of cloth: +0.4
Speed of bed: +1.3
Control / grip of balls: +2.0
Loss of efficiency / spin: +1.5
Response from rails: -0.6
Deviation off of several rails -0.4
Predictability / consistent behaviour: +2.4
