Hi to you all, I am not trying to get anybody in trouble or anything, but I am just Suspicious about my shafts, and came here for more information if they're actually Universal Smart Shaft or not, if not I'll just buy a real one and thats pretty much it,

Few weeks ago I bought Universal Smart Shafts from a local store here in my country, I actually got a good deal to buy two of them for my Cue, one shaft had cost me 65KD which if you convert it to dollars, It will be like 230 USD for one shaft, so two shafts had costed me around 460 USD, however then I came online did some searching and found out that UNIVERSAL SMART SHAFT is Labelled at the end of the shaft with Double big "SS" that are above each other, my shafts don't have that, now my question is, are my shafts a real Universal Smart shaft, or just a hoax? If they arent labelled that might make them a fake? not to mention they were actually expensive, if i bought it online it would be much cheaper for me.

Thanks.

You would do better to move this to the main fourm or the ask the cuemakers section. The Smart shaft ive seen said universal smart shaft or something. Most after market shafts tell you what they are so they can advertise the product your using.

The original ones that came out a couple years ago only said the mane on the joint adapter , where you screw your pin and shaft together. Now recently the ones available now have a squiggly lines or like 2 S's above the joint. Anyhow I had one years ago when they first came out and I was satisfied with mine and I had 5 different adapters from different makes of cues I had. The only problem I had was changeing the pins you had to be careful cause some were very tight with the threads inside the adapter I had to use a strap wrench to turn it loose from the shaft to change the adapters. And also I seen guys have their adapters break apart inside the shafts and then they just epoxied them inside so then the could no longer change the adapters out on the shaft. Thats just my experience with the shaft but over all I liked the way it played <<ED

arrowcrusher is right, the older ones have no logo, except for on the adapter itself. newer ones have the usual decal on the shaft. so no cause for concern unless you suspect something else is off with the shaft. if you post some decent pics of the shaft, we can take a look

the shafts mostly held up pretty well. probably the most delicate parts are the LS ferrule which is very thin walled and can crack. and also as mentioned above, the changeable adapter area. it is a bit difficult to change adapters and the manufacturer has said that the adapter was not designed to be changed regularly. the shafts do have a nice weight to them 4 oz+.

the USS also came in three varieties, the LS, RS and TX8. The LS has a 7/8 ferrule with the lightweight wood tenon for less deflection and a 12.75mm diameter. The RS has a standard 1" capped and threaded XTC ferrule with a 13mm diameter. Has more squirt, but XTC is very light so still a little less deflection that a normal shaft. The TX8 has a short 1/2" ferrule with the same LD tenon like the LS and a 11.75mm diameter. The taper is very odd on this shaft, not a euro taper like most skinny shafts, but more of a pro taper. It is very whippy.

Although the USS is discontinued, you can still get the same basic technology on Lucasi shafts today, without the changeable adapter. The Lucasi Hybrid Flexpoint is basically the same as the LS and the Flexpoint Slim is equivalent to the TX8. the standard Lucasi shaft is like the RS, except it is not laminated. Players also makes an HX shaft that is the same as the Hybrid, except that it is not laminated.

I bought the TX-8 (ll.75mm) when they first came out, and mine had the SS logo and also the Universal marking on the joint.

Forgot to mention, if you like those shafts, there is a bunch on ebay (new Demo) for sale for about half price with adapter. They are new and have the SS logo and Universal adapter. I bought one, and it was perfect with a moori tip. Just states "DEMO-NOT FOR SALE" in small area near the joint. Mine was $115.

Hey Manoman2444, Yea I saw thoose, but aren't DEMO suppose to be for trying out only and not for sale? It is stated on the shaft itself "THIS ITEM NOT FOR SALE" so why is the guy selling them? Thats confuses me.

I suspose these were left over when they stopped making them as Universal. The one I got was brand new, never used.
