Yep...the narrow snout is the give away, along with the exposed lower teeth.
Gators are found in freshwater, typically living amongst vegetation. Crocs are found in brackish saltwater, such as estuaries. Gators are typically smaller. The largest gator ever caught and killed was back in the 1890's and it 19.2 feet in length. Crocs can get to be upwards of 23 feet in length. Crocs are also much, much more aggressive than gators.
Another interesting fact: To estimate the size of an alligator, you measure the length from the tip of the nose to the eyes in inches, and the alligator is that many feet long. With crocodiles you measure the length from the heel to the longest toe of the hind foot in inches, and that is the length of the crocodile in feet.
