T. Hohmann the current best all around player?

I was in Vegas earlier in the week and got to watch some great matches. Hohmann has the potential to become the Tiger Woods of pool. His work ethic, coupled with his fitness make him a threat to win any tournament he enters especially the IPT style touneys which are so grinding.

I heard that he routinly jogs, works out and has a 'simple' diet. I think this played a role in him having as much stamina as he did down the stretch of the IPT. He has raised the bar for many of the other pool players that want to make it to the top (like Tiger Woods did). He won the straight pool championship last month and now the IPT and a world 9-Ball championship a couple of years ago.

I think he is currently the best all around player on the planet. This is tough for me to admit because Efren is one of my favorite players, but I think the proof in in the pudding. I wonder what he could do if he started playing one pocket? Do you think there is a better all around player at this time?

On a side note I watched the match between T. Hohmann and Mark Tademy that went double hill before Mark scratched (on a very difficult shot) to give Hohmann ball in hand with 3 balls to clear for the victory. I was greatly impressed with Marks game. Peace.

Hohmann's definitely the one to watch. After winning the WPC he didn't stop there and went on to win other tournaments in other disciplines. Straight pool, 8-ball, 9ball,.....now if only he develops a personality ;)hehehe might be a good poster boy for pool.

I don't know if Reyes is ready to relinquish his crown just yet, however, Hohmann is definitly a contender.

After a surprise winning at the 2003 WPC, Hohmann has gone on to win the following:
-2005 BCA Master (considered a pool Major)
-2005 World Pool League
-2006 European Straight Pool champ
-2nd in the 2005 USA Open (another major)

He has now shown great versatility at winning majors in 8ball, 9ball and straight pool disciplines.Hohmann is a champion that I predict we will be hearing a lot from for years to come.

Don't forget the recent World 14.1 Championship held in New Jersey which he won.

three biggest players right now

Based on big championships in recent years the three best players I think would have to be Alex Pagulayan, Thorsten Hohmann and Ralf Souquet.
Ralf won two major championship this year was well as a high ipt finish. Thorsten has won the 14.1, world champion couple years ago, high finish in major events like the US open, the bca championship (2nd to Rodney). Alex has been 2nd to thorsten in 2003 wpc, 2004 champion, US Open champion.

Yeah Homann is a youngest player, at the age of 27 its too early for him but not only Homann we could watch, yes ofcourse the filipino players especialy the young ones, if you look the grouping in the IPT website almost filipino players who are on the top, Homann gone a lot major tournament and champions also the taipe players there such many great players.

I just wondering when the Mosconi Cup came why is it the Europe team always lost?

Although I agree the Hohmann is a top player and at the top of his game, let us not be so quick to de-thrown King Efren.

Hohmann was king this week, but this is only one tournament for the IPT. The crown cannot be relinquished so easily.

Let us not forget the amazing stats Manalo has posted in the last two IPT events (better in win % than Hohman). Ralf Souquet must also be considered as well as several other players.

Only time will determine the true king.

Let us also remember Tiger woods doesn't win every tournament.

What a great week for pool!

Reyes didn't learn to play one pocket until well after he had already established himself as a top 9-ball (and 8-ball, rotation) player.

If Reyes can learn "late" in his pool career that Hohmann can certainly do the same.

However, undoubtedly Reyes' 3-cushion experience has come into play with his one-pocket dominance (cemented with precision banking + pocketing). The question is whether Hohmann has all the tools that Reyes has.

Only time will tell, but I think he's in a good position to succeed Reyes.

It is easy to make a case for Thorsten especially with him winning this week in Vegas, I definitely consider him the #1 straight pooler on the planet. But I don't think he is quite on the same level as Efren when it comes to being the best all around player.

Efren definitely plays a wider variety of games then Thorsten and is considered the best one pocket player alive, many also consider him the best rotation player alive aswell. Considering Thorsten's relatively young age he could definitely one day become the best all around player alive, but he's certainly got some work to do in order to catch Efren.

All this talk reminds me of how everyone talked about Seigel, years ago.

Is Wu wins. everybody will say Wu is the greatest. There is no greatest, yet. The greatest will be known once this world is ended. There will be lots of greatest that will be coming in the future long before all of us are dead. Todays name names will not be forgotten but future eyes will be eying new generations. Mosconi was then considered the greatest, now Reyes, next Hohmann, next.. Who knows. If Hohmann lost the next IPT, then that winner will be the greatest. I say I enjoyed watching last nights championship. Hohmann missed two times and scratched once on break but most often gets ball on a break and run. Manalo missed once, but mostly dry break.

Perhaps we should wait until all the Asian players start participating before crowns are handed out. And BTW, the best set played by any player was by Efren. The last couple of days he just seemed tired, perhaps he and the "crew" went over to the WSOP and didn't sleep enough.

Efren's performance throughout the tournament was definitely remarkable, considering the depth of talent he had to go through and the way he beat them was commendable.

What's even amazing is that at 52 years of age he's still the favorite to win any tournament. That's quite an accomplishment. What other Hall Of Famer can claim that?

a game of billiards is weather, weather game because sometimes you play good sometimes it off, not all the time you play good, remember when WU win the worldpool tournament, it is a history in billiards as early as 17 years of age who won the tournament, but where's the taipe player never heard heard right? but theres a lot of good taipe players, so I agree not all the time Homann is a great player in the planet we will next if he could take the next IPT event which I the much more bigger price than today

Wu will never be the greatest as long as the US Embassy is denying him a visa. Peace.

For those not familiar with US Entry Visa application, there are some criterias that we non-Americans have to pass.

1. have strong ties with the country of origin
2. enough money to finance your trip to the US

Wu was denied entry due to the first reason. I guess US Embassy thinks that once he's in the US that he won't go back home to China and be an illegal immigrant. This is usually a problem for younger(and single) person who wants to visit the US.

That single entry from China was just an alternate.

so there is possible that Wu wont be able to play in the worldpool this november in the Philippines?

Wu's the defending champion! Of course he'll be there to defend his title.
He's played there more than once on the Asian San Miguel tour (or whatever they call it)so the WPC won't be his first visit to the Phillipines.
